I would get another opinion before getting dentures. My fathers dentures weren't bad but they gave him some problems  :rose:  :peace: :santa:

Hold on to your teeth as long as you can.
I agree ... my hygenist once told me this about a loose back tooth that the dentist wanted to pull.  I have seen many ppl that thought it was easier just to have all their teeth pulled and get dentures.  They found out it wasn't easier at all.  Most had to wait a month after having their teeth pulled to allow their gums to heal to be fitted for dentures.  Can you imagine a whole month with out teeth .. I can't.

yes, indeed! A second opinion!

I have a wonderful dentist who saved my teeth from having to be pulled. Did not want dentures. There are issues with those also, and they need to be maintained.

Plus I could not afford them.

He saved my teeth, and the only dentist I trust.

My mom and sister has them and they gate them. I would suggest that you keep your teeth.

My mom's had dentures for 50+ years.  You just have to make sure they are good fitting.

I feel sorry for dentists. They try to help people and do their best.
Unfortunately, there is nothing they can do for some patients.

I've always had cavities, even though I have good dental hygiene. my dentist said I had too many teeth for my mouth but never pulled any?? When I got my first bad tooth I thought a lot about it b/c my parents paid a lot for my braces. After weighing the pros and cons, I have decided that I will have teeth pulled as needed. My family has had crowns, root canals, and cavities filled that have caused all sorts of problems. Eventually I will just get dentures. They are definately a pain, but it will be less of a pain than a bunch of root canals that constantly cause pain.

dentures are no fun and can cause discomfort - agree with my dentist - who said - you wanna keep as many of your own teeth as long as you possibly can - you can also get them bonded to build back missing ones or fill holes which lasts quite a while and you can redo as needed - way better than dentures - even if you do lose all your teeth - implants are definitely the best way to go -  :rainbow:

This remark is from a guy lucky enough to have all my original teeth and an occasional cavity, but nothing too serious, so I have no experience with dentures.  I do know from other people who have them that dentures can be a real pain at times.

This remark is also offered 'tongue in cheek' as a joke (and it may not even be a true observation since I have no personal experience).

The only benefit that I can see to having dentures as opposed to your real teeth is that when you bite down on a slice of piping hot pizza, you don't burn/blister the roof of your mouth and hurt that little flap of skin right behind your front teeth!

Good luck with your decision. Getting a second opinion might be a good idea, but may also cost you more money. Do you trust your dentist that his/her suggestion is 100% in your best interest and not a money grab?

I would do everything to keep my natural teeth & definitely get a second opinion.

If you are close to Mexico, they have dental facilities that cater to the American, implants are about 1/3 of the price that it is here in the USA out of pocket.  My Uncle who is a retired General who lives in Arizona uses them, I don't know why my relatives are so cheap when they have money, but they state the facilities are pretty plush & the facilities pick you up at the border.

Just another opinion to consider.  Good Luck
