Iphone update changed Siri
« on: December 14, 2017, 03:19:34 pm »
Just did the latest Iphone update and now Siri's voice has changed. She sounds like a young teenage call center employee. I absolutely hate it. I rely heavily on Siri now, but the only reason I started using it was because of her snappy AI and I liked the tone of her voice. Wish they'd go back to the old one.  :bad:

I stopped using siri a long time ago.  Actually have it disabled and blocked on my ph after I found out it stores and saves everything you say to it.

And when I did use it I thought she sounded like a smart A myself lol  And you should be able to change it in your settings.  I had like 4 or 6 choices.  Male or female.  A couple of accents.  It is somewhere in the settings but I can't tell you where because I have it disabled.

You can always change it to one of the other options. I guess I don't use it often enough to notice a significant difference in voices but I tend to have mine set to the British man

I've never had an iPhone, so I've never had to deal with Siri. It doesn't sound like a feature I'd like very much. I don't even like the voice on GPS that tells you where to go, LOL. But if I had to use Siri, I'd probably want the more grownup voice myself. :)

there are computer alarms and voice readers that have choices for the type of voice you want to hear.

Isn't Siri the name of Katie Holme's daughter ? Guess it sounds like a computer name ?

I have an iPhone & have never used Siri...  what a waste, I know.
When I get my upgraded iPhone, I'll have to learn how to use it.

Amazon Echo stores everything you say to it too...  and now it is learning your voice, for voice recognition.   Be prepared for WrongThink from 1984...   30+ years off the mark, but we are definitely living in surveillance world.

I def agree. I am very thankful to have read 1984 in high school. While I love my electronics, I have always kept it in mind that they are always listening and recording. I may have grown up more paranoid than most, lol. I find it very funny that people tape their webcams but keep their phones right next to them. No one reads the terms and agreements, most of our apps record all of our things. I suppose it doesn't bother me as I don't do anything illegal and I'm not planning a coup against our government. Being a college drop out, I doubt the government would bother recording me.

As for the Siri change, there are 3 options (American, British, and Australian.) You can have a male or female voice. I always used the American (The original Siri voice) but since they've done the update, her voice has changed. Apple released a statement saying that they were updating Siri's voice to make the AI sound more human like. It does, but I just don't like it whatsoever.

I never set-up Siri, just don't want to talk to a machine.  They keep trying to get me to install the last update but I am not going to I have a 5s (which I paid a lot for right before the 6's came out I didn't want the bigger one) and the updates start forcing you to upgrade by slowing and reducing performance.

I just got a new laptop that has Cortona, I can live without that!

I have mine set to the Australian guy voice, lol. I barely ever use it though because more than half the time it doesn't answer in a useful way and ends up being more of a waste of time than just looking for the information myself in the first place.

I like that because if I am driving I don't need to try to look at the map on my phone. And it was handy when we was in another state and it told us where to go. Well until it stupid got us lost because well long story but it was wrong. haha  Not Siri the map thing.

I changed Siri's voice to a male with an Australian accent a long time ago and as of earlier today that was still there even though I have done the latest update.  I was never crazy about the original Siri voice and I'm sure I wouldn't like the new one either.
