Christmas Hard Candies
« on: December 19, 2017, 08:52:35 am »
Do you like the hard  :snowflake: candies of Christmas? Never homemade any kind of hard candies  :bs: because cheep at store and sugar intake. I love to hand out candy canes, :angel12:  they all said thanks. I loved to decorate the Christmas tree with the candies just to see them disappear. I found a beautiful box of ribbons, as in unbroken and large pieces. Some candies I found over my past, were too beautiful to eat  :santa: and I would have to say please eat it, it's all yours. lol What is your choice?  Happy National Hard  :binkybaby: Candy Day! Have a gr8 day Merry Christmas :present:

We rarely  eat the Christmas hard candies,  I guess we have out grown them at our age. But I do remember as a child grandpa buying hard candies in bulk as he gave them out at school. I was in the first grade and he was the janitor  at the little school I went to.  Grandma would make little bags out of scrap material and grandpa dressed up as Santa Claus and would hand them out. Of course I knew he  was Santa Claus because I knew his scent. It was a piney outdoor scent. I also  saw  the grandparents and parents filling  all of out stockings. But I kept it a secret for as long as my little brother and sister thought their was a Santa Claus.

We put the hard candy on the Christmas tree at my sister house where we all get together and share them out to the kids. the small ones and teens eat them up before the adults can get to them. yes, they are too hard for us to bite on them these days it seem like we will pull out our teeth.

I also love hard Christmas candy. My grandmother always had a candy bowl of ribbon candy and other Christmas hard candies on hand. She'd put out root beer barrels, butterscotch disks, and Coffee Nips when it wasn't Christmas. I guess because of her hard candy diligence, I have a soft spot for hard candy! :)

I don't care for hard candies as I used to. The only kind I like now are Jolly Ranchers.

This thread brings up memories of days gone by.  We always had a tin of hard candy at Christmas, and it was usually delicious.  There are a few flavors now that just taste phony to me, but the hard candy of old had a wonderful flavor all its own and such beautiful colors and creative presentations.  My mom always bought a giant stick of peppermint that would last for days.  She would hit it on the end with the handle of a table knife to crack off a piece to eat!

I just saw a tin of hard ribbon candies at the dollar store a couple of days ago.  Mom used to have those around the house now and then.  I think she's the only one that really enjoyed them. They were so big for my little mouth I didn't really enjoy them.  I was tempted to get a tin just to see if I liked em ' honestly can't remember if I liked the flavor or not?

The ribbons in different colors we loved as kids. An old widow down the street from my grandmother always had them. My dad always bought a ton of chocolate covered cherries.  It was his favorite and we never had candy except for holidays.  Now I am craving chocolate covered cherries.
