Most of the cats I've had are indoor cats. I got one outdoor cat for Christmas when I was five years old. We lived in Illinois in some pretty frigid temperatures, but Cisco would want to be outside in it, no matter what the weather. He'd come in the house to eat and drink and sometimes sleep, but he'd terrorize everyone in the house in order to go back out again. He just wanted his FREEDOM, LOL!  :peace:

Hey catchow being unable to catch my one cat isn't neglect,I have a bad back and the cold makes it tighter and I can't be chasing her around esp. when she's faster than me,so  you're being an ignorant and rude ahole. Add to that she's a loud and destructive cat when she's "trapped" inside, she's the type of animal that unless she decides it's time to come in she's staying outside and doing what she likes.

I have a second set of kids that Momma was kind enough to birth here this year. She had 5 kids but one died trying to cross the road, so I'm left with 4 beauties plus Momma. I named the runt No. 5 because it's always the last one to come to dinner, a very light gray, and a pure black with white paws I named Boots who thanks me for feeding them and giving them a place to sleep...too bad I haven't been able to really socialize them but they are getting more trusting. Then there's the other 2, regular tigers and one looks like Momma. They run and hide if i even look at them. Pure feral are those two.

We were loaned a very large dog carrier which I put blankets inside, a thermal warming pad, a blanket over the top to stop the cold from coming in the "side holes" and hubby cut a pair of legs off his worse pants which he hung on the front to stop the cold. i also used an old bath carpet for the wire door (clipped with giant binder lips) to cover the rest of the front to keep the cold out. All 5 sleep in there but sometimes the kids go under the porch when it's not as cold. i just ordered an outdoor heating water bowl to keep their water from freezing because the temps are in the 'teens during the day and single digits at night (-3 last night) and I have to give them fresh water every couple hours.

For doing genealogy research for a friend, she sent an insulated cat house for them but they won't go near it. It's only large enough for one kid so it's no wonder. Boots and No.5 stick together but they wouldn't fit in there. The kids are 8 months old and  hubby wishes they'd find their way some place else. :) After Runt got sick and probably died (first litter and my avatar), I don't want to get too close to this new batch but the 2 I named come to our window panel by the door and will play with my hand. They look like they want to come in but chicken out.

All of our precious pets enjoy the indoors.  There are plenty of blankets, beds and towels to keep everyone toasty and cozy.

Our pets are our family and they deserve nothing but the very best in everything.   :cat: :cat: :cat:

I have 2 cats and one is inside and loves being inside from November-May,the other is hardcore(not even coming inside with 1 degree temps and runs and disappears when I try to grab her while she eats or drinks water, but she looks and acts healthy so she must have a good hiding place. I have neighbors with dogs who purposely leave the animals out in frigid temps so they don't get bothered...aholes !!!!!

Okay, animals were made to live outdoors. People who have outdoor animals are not @ss-holes. You are for judging them.  Not every one can bring their animals inside.  Cats and dogs and cows and horses and every other animal have lived outdoors for years. Mine are in the house but I have a house where I can have that happen. I have neighbors that have outdoor cats and dogs.  They are not bad people for having animals outside. Sad when there are people who care more about a dog being outside that a person who is homeless.

I don't have any pets but if I did, they would be inside and only let out to handle their business.  It's not fit for man or beast ---- really cold.

I can't imagine people leaving their animals out in the cold in this weather.... it's been getting in the 30s at night here & I can hear a dog barking at night where I live, probably because it's freezing & wants in.  Sad.     Last night I didn't hear it barking, so the owners must have gotten a clue.

Animals were not made to stay indoors. There is nothing wrong with them being outside. I remember you saying that cat had a place and it stayed under your house. I am sure it is warm and it will be fine. It can be colder that crap and my dog will go outside and lay in the snow. His choice.

lol. If it is ONLY in the 30s where you are then you are plenty warm.  I doubt the barking dog is frozen and wants in. Every one does not have a house where they can bring animals inside. Some dogs bark all the time. No matter what the weather. And I use to have one that if your brought him in because it was storming or cold or what ever he would want right back out. So before you judge somebody for having a dog or cat outside get a clue - they are going to be fine. The birds don't freeze to death and they are a lot smaller and have a lot less protection than any dog or cat.

Hmm, this post has turned a little sour. To answer your question, no. Even "outdoor" pets should have some sort of protection when it gets below freezing. Somebody mentioned cows and horses - they are in stables and barns at night and generally have access if they want to go in during the day.

There are a few neighborhood cats running around me neighborhood.  People take them in when it gets cold like it is now.

My dog enjoys it outside in the cold even when I call him over to come inside, He just gets way too hyper outside even after awhile I check on him his still running around from time to time and still refuse to come inside  :confused1:
