Some words do get overused. I can think of several I'm guilty for using too often myself. Words go through periods of being more fashionable too like clothing.

I think that could be said of "Dilly Dilly" right now.  I believe it was influenced by the popularity of Game of Thrones.  Whatever the case may be, Bud Light has made a solid run with the phrase in a series of commercials playing throughout the football season right through the Super Bowl.  They even shouted the phrase on Groundhog Day.  I guess you could say it's in fashion today.

Our marketing department overuses the word "diaspora". I have a monthly pool based on marketing's use of "diaspora". Seven times in a one hour meeting is the lowest number yet. I won fifteen dollars at that meeting with the word used twelve times. Legal tends to over use "stated" and "identified". Our Chief Executive Officer hypocritically over uses "lean" as in lean deployment/environment while taking his chauffeur driven car to the private jet and holding senseless corporate meetings on a monthly basis at an estimated cost of over three hundred thousand dollars per meeting. All are cringe worthy but pale next to the use of non-word like "irregardless", "Warshington", and "shrimps" or senseless statements like "I see what you are saying".

The word I hate that is not being used correctly is a woman being called "man" by their significant other.

I'm with you on what toxic means to you but I do believe in using the word toxic to describe a person.  If their attitude is such a way that it brings others down, they can have a poisonous type effect on that persons life and health over time.

I got really tired of "totally" as the person saying it usually throws it out in an accident....TOE-ta-lee!

It was funny when the grand-daugters started using it.
