OMG, the Chucky, Jason Voorhees, and Freddy Krueger series of movies used to scare the heck out of me on a serious level.

I just remembered another movie that was traumatizing to me and my husband. We went to see Rosemary's Baby when our own baby was about three months old. Neither of us felt very well after seeing that.

Oh, and someone mentioned The Exorcist. We saw that at a drive-in movie and could not believe we had actually watched such an awful movie! Eeeewwwww!

The Omen!  There was just something so evil about that movie that it has stuck with me all my life.  I think it was kind of like a follow-up to Rosemary's Baby but to me much more troubling.  After that movie I gave up ever watching those kind of movies.

I wasn't really big into any scary movies as a kid so I don't know that I can honestly answer this question. I suppose I was afraid of the wicked witch from the Wizard of Oz as a youngster, but the movie itself ended well enough so it didn't usually give me any nightmares. (Of course those flying monkeys were not to be taken lightly).

Several on here have mentioned Jaws - which I never saw as a child to be traumatized by it.  But that is one of the movies on the schedule for Dive-In movies this summer at a local waterpark. I think they are setting up an external screen on site at the wave pool allowing park guests in the water to watch. Sounds like that could be fun/scary.  No doubt there will be a few jokesters grabbing at the legs and feet of others when those famous bass tones pick up the tempo!

My mom and I went to Florida in 1975, i was 17  i went deep sea fishing and caught and landed a 298 about 11 feet long pound golden hammer head..  took 4 hours to land ! Turned my  forearms black and blue just from the fight,  MY goofy father had it mounted not thinking of it's size, showed up in a crate the size of Fred your ford!  Needless to say it's hang in the zoo up where i used to live.     I'm still afraid of sharks in the water , with my luck thats most likely next!   :P :'( :P

For me I would say 'The Day After'.  It was a very graphic depiction of the aftermath of a nuclear bomb hitting land.

Where do you go, what do you do?  I felt scared and hopeless.

I  won't swim in anything but a small pool because of Jaws and 40+ years after watching Helter Skeler I still have nightmares about Charles Manson.
