Need an opinion please

May 6th of 2017 I lost my daughter to suicide.  This year on 1 year anniversary of her death I want to get a tattoo with her name birthdate and date of her death surrounded by wings and purple flowers, her favorite color and under all that I would like to get semi colon, it stands for completed suicide.

All my life I believed that tattoos are stupid and swore I would never get a tattoo and I am forced to get one I would get one saying tattoos are stupid.

Do you think I am hyptricoc for getting a tattoo?  I loved my daughter to the moon and back. she was only 28 and was in jail for 30 and was getting ready to get out but hung herself from the bars in her cell.  I am having hard time deciding what to do and of course I have not come to terms with what she did.  I have no forgiven and very angry at her.

Please give me your opinion of what I should do but please do not attack me for my choices.  Thank you and God Bless everyone!

I'm sorry for your loss.  I have a tattoo so my opinion is not against getting one if you want too.  Think of other ways you can honor her and her memory if you don't think a tattoo is right for you.  People and their opinions and feelings change throughout their life so I don't consider you a hypocrite if you get one.

Get the tat if you want to remember her and want others to know.

Forgive her, though. That will only harm you in the long run. She had to have been in great pain to take her own life. I'm so sorry.

I am so sorry.  I hope you can forgive her.  She  wasn't in her right mind to take her life.  What about doing work for suicide prevention?

I have been doing work to help others that lost their loved ones to suicide especially children.  At times though it becomes too much after you listen to a few stories and some that are similar to my situation. 

I have plans of opening a restaurant and name it (ShadowCat) that was my daughter's nickname.  She did a few MMA fights and gave up when she was knocked out cold for about 10 minutes.  She had black belt in tae kaw dow and was working on her second one.

So sorry for your loss but I would advise to hold off on your decision about a tattoo until you come to grips with your loss. Especially since you've always been against tats.  A lot of people regret having gotten tats but its quite costly I understand to get one removed.

Do it if your so inclined....but do research in your area who is the top rated artist shop and go check out their work and talk with them.

Take it from a guy who's been tattooed 9 times...3 from cover ups that I didn't like later....

I have thought about it long time and I have decided I do not want the tattoo.  I would feel stupid doing it since I do not believe in tattoos and I will regret it later. 

I am doing other things to honor her memory.  I am going to start by going back to Lebanon, my birth place, and scatter her ashes where I grew up.  She really wanted to go back there and see where I grew up.  We made the plans but she left us without making that trip.  I am also helping youth in my area so not to follow my daughter.

I am starting to come to grips with her suicide by getting professional help.  I hope some day I will live a half way normal life without her.  I had lost another daughter 26 years ago.  She drowned in back yard pool.

I have a son who got married over a year ago and he is expecting his first child next month.  That is the only positive thing going for me and keeps me going.  I am the first child in my family with a married child and becoming a grandma.  I have 11 sisters and 2 brothers.

I am deeply sorry for your lost.  To lose a child is very hard to go through.  If getting this Tattoo will bring you closure, then go for it.

If you can open a restaurant named ShadowCat to honor your daughter, that would be amazing.

My dad always warned me that tattoos are stupid and not to get one.  He has 3 tattoos that he got due to peer pressure.  He deeply regrets getting them.  Instead of a tattoo you can make a painting with the design you described - it's a great design.

When I was 19 I had a lot of thoughts of suicide. I don't have those thoughts anymore, thank God.  I am glad that I didn't end my life and destroy my parents' lives as well.

No absolutely not. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and decisions, even if that means their opinions have changed.
