I wasn't really worried about it with my son until one of his friends classmates died of it last week. A 13 year old girl with no other health problems, and she was only the 2nd in the school to catch it. Anything that has the slightest chance of killing a kid isn't something to be ignored, no matter how much it's hyped or debated. I will definitely be getting him the vaccine when it's available.
That's realllllyyy scary!!  :-

Just curious but he goes to public school? I mean your name leads us to believe your child is home schooled.

The swine flu is nothing but hype. It's just your ordinary flu, but a different strain. There are several strains.

It is not the same.  Please read a little more before making (false) statements.

If you have something to argue, you should provide some info to back up your statements. Comments like "the movie is the same as the rest" without watching, and "please read a little more before making (false) statements" may feel like people think you are smarter, but I think most can see these are purely opinions and you have no actual facts to argue with. You may as well be posting "Im smarter than you so there" since its just as valid as "Please read a little more before making (false) statements." without providing a single false statement... Just a friendly tip since it will be much more effective in getting your point across there post that instead..

the swine flue is basically your ordinary flu, which it is, just a different strain that has the capability of transferring between animals and humans etc.  For some great info on the swine flu scam watch this:

I had all of the symptoms of swine flu and I went to the doctors and told them I thought I might have had it, the dumb doctors never even tested me for it. I think there have been alot more people in maine with it, but the doctors just arent testing anyone. I was feeling pretty miserable for about 2 weeks, I'm still not quite over it.

Wow!  I am no expert, but I am pretty sure that the Centers for Disease Control is mandating that all cases be reported to them so that they can track outbreaks.  To not test suspected cases kind of defeats that purpose.  I am sure there are a lot of cases not being reported because the person never even goes to the doctor, but I thought rapid tests were being done routinely.   I know they were doing them in every other room when I was at the pediatrician's office.

My son can now go back to school because he has been fever free for 24 hours.  I never had fever, but aches all over and I still have them.

when you get the swine flu and you think it is just an ordinary flu - then you will know you have been scammed - had the hong kong flu years ago still have not fully gotten back energy had before - the doctor i meet on a Monday that had the flu died on Wednesday that same week - it took 2 months before i could go back to classes - each person is effected differently - hopefully you will not die for the scam - Health, Happiness, Peace, and Positive Perspective - IMHO >> In My Humble Opinion - The MUSEUM, Zazzle

People freak out because there's cases of people dying from it on the news yet people don't realize that the "regular" flu has killed and still kills people all the time, much more then the swine has but it's become the normal so you don't hear about it as much. Of course having another flu means more people getting sick and that death toll will go up but you shouldn't fear it any more then you fear the regular flu. When the swine first hit it was big deal because we weren't 100% sure what it was capable of so they had to take proper precautions and made it a bigger deal then it was.

While it is true that people die from regular flu too, what is particularly scary about this one is the ease in which it spreads.  If normal flu kills a few people, but had the ability to spread more rapidly with more ease then it only makes sense that you would see more deaths.  Plus it is particularly dangerous for certain groups of people, more so than regular flu.

My case was mild either because I started the Tamiflu immediately or just because it would not have been bad anyway.  I will never really know.  With my son I would say it was worse than any other flu he has ever had because his fever was 103 and 104 for quite a while.

Having said that and having been through it, I still don't think that I would get the vaccine for either of us unless we had health conditions like asthma or something.  I guess everyone just has to decide for themselves.

We are both still feeling kind of tired and achy, but my son went back to school today since he had not had fever for 24 hours so I guess we are on our way to recovery.  Thanks everyone!

He's homeschooled. He plays with the neighbor kids though, who are in the same class as the girl who died. It's not like he's quarantined in the house  :)
He goes to Karate and has friends around the neighborhood. The fact that we had 2 neighbor kids on Tamiflu because they had been exposed to the girl who died is scary enough for me.
