Daycare center
« on: April 25, 2018, 08:06:47 pm »
As a parent, if you put your child in a daycare, would you be comfortable with them having a male teacher? I would not want a male watching my child. I know things that are bad can happen with female teachers too, but I guess that I am used to women teachers and more comfortable with them.

Sorry, I can't answer that one.  I don't have any children.

Yes, I do feel comfortable leaving my children with a male teacher.  I am not going to blame an entire race on a few bad ones.  If I've done research on the daycare and trust it enough to send my kids there, I'm going to trust the people they hire.  It helps to be more hands on by talking constantly with my kids and with the teacher to get to know both the teacher and what happens in the classroom.  This way I can feel confident about who I am leaving my child with.

there was a very bad situation where I used to live with a woman in a care for disabled children facility so there are good and bad in both sexes

It depends on the age of the child.  Infants, I would feel more comfortable with a female.  Although my son-in-law is an excellent caretaker for my grandson.
Have a wonderful day!

Good questions.....my first reaction is the male was hired so as to be "politically correct".  I would not be comfortable.

Females by nature  are more likely to be "mothering" or nurturing, but I do not trust someone just because they are femaile.

A lot of weird stuff going on in daycares any more, at least those run out of homes.  My daughter is a teacher in a professional (very good) day care, and my grand-daughter has left her son in an at-home daycare (and took him out to protect him), so we are always on the alert for people not suitable in this role.

I would first check out the day care very carefully.  I would never use a in home day care, but rather use a business day care.  The sex of the teacher makes no difference to me.  You cannot judge a whole race, religion, or sex of a person on what some have done.  There are wonderful male teachers and there are terrible woman teachers.  What I would do was carefully check them out, ask if staff has been cleared (criminal clearances, etc); and definitely I would make “surprise” visits to the facility, and if that would not be allowed pull the kid immediately.

I have no issue with male teachers.  I had several male babysitters, and nothing happened.

I would not feel uncomfortable having a male teacher watch my child. There was actually a male teacher at the daycare my son used to go to. I think there needs to be more male teachers to create a balance for child to see positive role models in males and females.

I would feel comfortable with it. You have to really check out the daycare and it's quality.

Maybe not if there was a man alone, by himself with children... but I actually like the idea of a male teacher.... as you said, female can be horrible too, so it's not about the sex

Wow this could be a sticky subject.  It's true - woman are more maternal.  It comes with our design.  We were designed to carry and care for our children... although not all women have that instinct... particularly when it comes to other women's children.  But there are other cultures where all women raise all children as if they are there own.  I know there are some men that are instinctively caring for young - very natural and protective. However - both sexes can be dangerous, inappropriate and mean. So having an open line of communication between daycare directors, teachers (other staff) parents and most importantly your own child should determine if you're feeling your child is safe in their daycare.
