Sprint and T-Mobile
« on: April 29, 2018, 10:55:16 am »
Today they announced that they are "combining". They didn't announce a "merger", but just that they were combining forces. I wonder how that's going to affect service. Personally, I have Sprint (for the unlimited data) and I'm sure they're trying their best to compete with Verizon's network. I'm interested to see how this plays out.

I had no idea T-Mobile had gotten as big as it has.  I just assumed they were still the small AT&T wanna-be company they started out as being.  Guess I've been pretty much out of touch.

What I was reading that customers may lose out in the long run as if the deal goes through, they are less inclined to give enticing discounts to switch.

Hmm, between the two, I've only had a (horrible) personal experience with T-Mobile. Some of my friends who have Sprint proclaim that the quality of service/signal is horrible. This is why I am sticking with Verizon, LOL.

Verizon seemed to be more expensive than other carriers, I went back to AT&T.

I hope that this does not mean price hikes to customers

I use a service that kind of piggybacks on T mobile so I'll have my fingers crossed that this won't drive service prices up.

Version is my provider but to me is too expensive but I'm stuck because I dropped tmoble & sprint a long time ago. I that as competition drops, customers will be paying a hefty bill!

This merger has to be approved by a government regulatory agency first and it is being reported that it is unlikely to get approved.

I'm not sure how the merger of two big companies such as these would work out,  There would certainly be pluses and negatives.  I think combining resources to develop a 5k network would be a positive but I also believe decreased competition is never good for the consumer. At this point, I am wondering if such a merger would be approved considering anti-trust laws.
I will say that about a year ago I started using Consumer Cellular and have been very happy with the plans, phone I decided upon, and my bill.  I am planning to stay with them for awhile!
