Palm Scan Identification

Wow I went to get lab/blood work done at my doctor's office (they have their own lab) and they have implemented a palm scan identification system.  The lab tech said the local hospital will be using this system as well.  I can't imagine enough people impersonating others at the lab or hospital to warrant this system but apparently I am wrong. Ever heard of this or had to do this?

I have never heard of this and I am not comfortable with it.  It is probably to curb the people doctor shopping and it is used in every area.  People will do anything to get more pills to sell.
