WINDOWS 10 UPDATE - A mess of problems from users
« on: May 24, 2018, 08:12:23 am »
Windows message boards were bombarded with complaints after users found that the "restart and install" prompt for the Windows 10 update led to a blank screen with a message saying:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop is unavailable. If the location is on this PC, make sure the device or drive is connected or the disc is inserted, and then try again. If the location is on a network, make sure you're connected to the network or internet, and then try again. If the location still can't be found, it might have been moved or deleted.

The screen has no icons and a few users were only able to remedy the problem with the help of another PC, a luxury many do not have access to.

This is exactly what has happened to me. My laptop is completely unusable unless I take it to a shop because I'm not able to do the repair. I downloaded the free upgrade to Windows 10 when they offered the incentive so I don't have the hard disk and after this problem, I'd be nuts to upgrade to it if I ever get my laptop fixed.

I would post the link but since they aren't allowed, you'll just have to search for the answer. I was on techrepublic.com for the answers.

I had major issues on the last windows update that I did on my computer.  Somehow it messed up my start menu.  Created a lot of havoc for me!
Have a wonderful day!

Oh yikes - I hadn't heard that.  So far so good I haven't had any problems.  My system did an automatic Windows 10 update shortly after I'd purchased it.  It was glitchy for a while but with regular updates all the quirks were worked out.

I don't like it. But it seems like  using a dell is the worst possible thing.  I am thinking about going with a different computer altogether. Like a HP or something. But one thing is I will never have another all in one Dell. They suck. I can't even put a tower with it as it will mess it up. Well news flash it already is getting that way.

I lost my log on prompt after a Windows 10 update. I couldn't figure out how to get it back so I bought this laptop, which I don't like as much as my PC.

I didn't encounter this problem. However, it did take several hours for my laptop to complete all the necessary downloads, restarts and installation. It is working well now, so everything went pretty good.

You can post links. You just cannot post REFERRAL LINKS or links where people clicking get you points or money.
And apparently you CAN post those because it happens all the time and no matter how many times the link is reported it is never removed. So there ya go.

My updates happen automatically so I wonder if the link for the update you clicked actually came from Windows?

You just have to get use to it.  Any time you get something new it is a matter of getting use to it.  When I first got my laptop and it was Windows 10 I didn't like it too much but now that I know how to use it I have no problems.  I don't like that the only word program is just type and nothing else. The one that is like the Microsoft Word you have to pay so much a month if you want to use it. You can type with it but if you want to print you have to pay.
