Apartments
« on: June 04, 2018, 06:21:45 pm »
I recently looked into getting into an apartment.  I found that to get the type of apartment I need and want, I will have to pay approximately $700 per month.  However, the biggest issue is that most of them want you to be able to demonstrate monthly income three times the amount of your rent.  Obviously, if you find an apartment for $700, you have to show that you have $2100 per month of income.  Being retired, that's an issue!  Are you familiar with it being the same where you live?

If your retired there hould be some place to can get into that are Government owed, my dad stayed in a pretty decent place that rent was low and he even got help with his heating bill...there should be an office on aging in your area that will help you...maybe even ask Social Security if they know any programs.

   I do not like apartments.
For the same price live in an extended hotel room-
the same price as an apartment and get free housekeeping.

My boyfriend and I pay $800 a month which includes heat and water. We only had to prove a steady reliable income. My mom is 60 and legally blind and lives in a neighborhood for low income families and only pays around $400 a month with everything included. Agency on Aging is a lot of help and you can usually bing/google search for local low income housing.

I'm alone and paying 800.00 it includes , water, heat, power, and snow removal and lawn care, but i live in a post card setting on the shore of the Mighty Mississippi , and have a heated garage , and a huge shared area for get togethers or parties,  i have a huge yard for my dog , a nice deck over looking the river , its a normal two bedroom cottage of sorts with a real wood buring fire place , have new washer and dryer in my full basement. Was a problem till the past week with my disability.  I get NO help from MN the welfare state !!  and i'm living on a 1203.00 S.S  check plus my surveys !   I make it work ! I'm strong willed and a go getter....   I lost all my savings to OBAMAs joke health care plan!    File for section  8 housing  get your rent for 1/3 of your s.s. check .  I thought about that  but i have 2 bed rooms and they only will help if its one bedroom !   section 8  works any where if the land lord will take the voucher !

I live in a 2 bedroom living quarters in the basement of my son's house and pay NOTHING for rent. He wanted a larger house and we wanted a smaller one, so we bought this one together and we paid cash for our 1/3 and he makes the payments on his 2/3. Made it a win-win for both of us.

My parents had to cosign on my old apartment with me. My income was NOT 3 times what the apartment cost, but I'm a very thrifty person so I managed to pay the rent each month.

I live in Portland, OR. A Studio Apt,  starts at $900 so, I guess you wouldn't want to live here.

Apartments where I live are chopped up homes made into apartments. They advertise for $500-$800 a month and include everything but electric. They're NO PETS ALLOWED. There are some townhouses but they charge over $1000 for a 2 bedroom place. NO PETS ALLOWED and you pay all the utilities. Houses also go for $800-$1200 (for the fancy ones) and you pay all the utilities.

All thees rentals want 1 month rent and 1 month security deposit up front.  Rental prices are crazy when you can get a decent (not fancy) home for a mortgage of the same prices and same items you pay for rental homes and/or some apartments. Plus you can have pets. But you're responsible for the lawn and all utilities.
