Washing clothes

 I don't think I have a ruler  never mind a stick. If I need to know how much room is left in the washer when I add the clothes I just put my hand in

I can't say that I have ever heard of this technique for washing laundry. I usually just wash most things on cold unless it is bedding or towels.

Many, many years ago I used a stick to push the clothes  down into the washer. before starting it. Yep it was a wringer type washer. the  I would  use the stick to pull the clothes up so I could  run them through the wringer. The  water was hot.  After running them through the wringer from the was I then had to run them back into the wringer from the rinse water. what a job.  Then had to hang them out to dry.  Oh it is so much easier with my washer and dryer now.

washing clothes is not one of my favorite things to do,,,,   I remember my grandmother using one of them "wringer washers"  and hanging the clothes out side to dry.    never used a stick tho LOL

There's no need to push the clothes in the water.  I'm confused as to why you would do that in the first place if you have a regular washing machine.

I have an old washing machine and I ALWAYS use my Mom/Nanny's stick because I dont like getting my hands wet lol

I remember my mom doing this when I was a kid, especially if she was using bleach. I think it was for the old agitator washers. It's not necessary with the new washers.

When I was 9 or 10, we had a washing machine with a rolling pin, put clothes thru the two pins to wring out the water, It was my turn to do that and I ended up holding onto an article of clothing and my hand with thru the pins and up my arm to the elbow and was peeling the skin off my arm, still have the scars. I was screaming so loud my mom came and unplugged the machine and got my right arm out, by that time blood and skin was a mess.

Do you use a stick when you wash clothes? My Mom and Grandmother did and now I do. My Nanny never liked to get her hands wet so she pushed her clothes down with a stick

I am not sure what a stick is I just use the machine
