Conclusion: Washing vegetables
« on: August 19, 2018, 09:06:19 am »

I read this in an article about washing vegetables. This is the conclusion:

'Sorry, but your mom was right. While washing your produce won't protect you from every deadly food-borne illness, it has been shown to prevent some nasty things from getting inside your body. And since it doesn't take much effort to rinse off your veggies, there's really no good reason you shouldn't be doing it.

"It can only provide positive benefits," Patterson says. "You’re just building your safety net."'

If you want to read the whole article, this is the link:

Happy vegetable eating!

Yes, washing vegetables, especially in hot water since that kills several bacteria, won't kill every disease you could get infected with (same issue with washing hands) but it does remove some of them.  The problem is, washing them, depending on your water, could be putting even more chemicals on them.  I guess that's why someone had the brilliant idea to come up with a 'veggie wash'.  It's actually a spray you use on your vegetables instead of using water to get them clean.

I always wash fresh vegetables because sometimes they have some dirt on them.  There is nothing worst than eating vegetables and you feel grits of dirt in your food.

I wash my vegies to remove soil, bug guts, and bug poop.  I know that not all germs and bacteria are removed in washing, but at least I'm not eating bug poop.

I always wash my fruits and vegetables before I eat them. To me that is just common sense.

I always thought it was a no-brainer to wash your fruits and vegetables before eating them as well as washing my hands before preparing food.
Have a wonderful day!
