plus size misteak
« on: August 22, 2018, 09:43:24 am »
hello everyone
so i was  helping my friend shop for some clothing this weekend and we went to 4 different stores
because she couldn't find anything in her size  and i mean granted she was looking  for all white  clothing  3X
for religious reasons   and we found white stuff but whether it was a shirt or dress  there just didn't seem to be anything  in her size  and by the last store she was starting to get discouraged  so i was thinking to myself  i wounder if places like Ross and other big named stores  were purposely only putting small and medium sized clothing out and prejudices against
full figured  and plus sized women possibly even men   which i think is    so messed up considering that Ross is nothing more than a thrift store with a fancy name  but i feel like i remember when Kmart got sued because they didn't carry plus sizes  idk  let me know what you guys think ?

hi,
This is both sad and discriminatory.

Without meaning to sound insensitive, what size are you talking about?

While inconvenient and frustrating for sure, I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the argument that it is somehow discriminatory. I know that it is comparing apples to oranges, but I cannot tell you how many times I have found a particular shirt or pair of pants that I really liked, but it turned out that the store didn't have it in the size that I needed...  In those cases I was just out of luck.

I hope that your friend finds/found something suitable. But if not, aren't there plus size stores or catalogs that she can order from?

With Ross it is usual hit or miss with the size.  School just started and pickings  are slim on everything.

This happens all the time when you find something you like but they don't have the right size.  You can't sue all the stores because they don't have the size you need especially if you are looking for a specific color.

That's why it is best to shop online if your size is not an average... pick & choose & avoid the aggravation of finding your size at the store -- but beware that sizes from China or Europe are much smaller than what is sold in the USA.

I don't see why it would be discriminatory for Kmart not to sell plus sizes, retail is based on what sells... being any kind of weight is not a protected class in the USA.  I'll have to look that one up.

Have you tried Sears? Plus-sized clothes are (obviously) available at a lot of retailers because the average American isn't exactly a size 2, so if you had bad luck at one store, I'd recommend trying another retailer. Lane Bryant has some classy clothing for big girls.

Maybe you're just shopping at the wrong store?  Or at least look at online options.  Some retailers may not carry plus size in store in your area but will carry it online like Old Navy and Torrid.

Although I  am not way over weight I am build weird. I am 5'5" but have broad shoulders, and have to wear Petite pants . Meaning short in the crotch . So  I get  14 petites in pants med. length .  I also wear a 1x  top because of broad shoulders and long arms. None of us are perfect even if some think they are. But I have better luck ordering from Blair and Haband, catalogs and I can always get  clothes to fit for me.

     Here is the real problem:
Some companies do not design and make big sizes
because they do not sell well. Consequently, stores carry
only junior, misses and very limited plus sizes. If you like
a style in the store...but is not available at this location, try
to buy it online. Walmart stores, depending on location, have
a good collection of plus-sized fashions. I think it goes to 4X-
5X. For other stores, go online to buy your desired size.

This is also the time of year where they quit carrying a lot of white items, until next spring.  Sometimes what  they have sells out quickly.

Ross is not a place that specializes in plus size clothing.  Your friend should either lose weight and have more clothing options or shop in places known for plus size clothes.

I'm average height and not plus-sized, but I still have trouble finding clothes that fit, even in my size. "Regular" pants are usually too short on me, but the "tall" version is too long. Shirts are too tight in one size, but too baggy in the next size up. Sleeves are too short. It's a struggle. I hate shopping for clothes more than almost anything.

No I agree it is not right.  I am on the plus size side and I order stuff online due to the fact that it is hard for me to shop and hard to find stuff I need that fits. There are places online that cater to the plus size persons.  Good luck to your friend.

Have you check Maurices or Torrid? sometimes online offer plus size, the bad thing about it is that you can't try on first.
