I've always said soda. My mom sometimes says pop, though.

I will say either pop or soda because I hear one about as much as the other.Sometimes I just use the brand name.I have never heard "fuzzy drink" either.Could you have meant "fizzy drink"?I have heard that one a few times.

I noted the same thing about “fuzzy drink.” Make sure you pay closer attention to previous replies.

I think you should follow your own advice about paying attention to previous replies. On page 1 of this thread,sak4kat suggested the possibility of the original poster meaning "fizzy drink" before either of us.

I sometimes call it pop or soft drink. Very rarely I'll call it soda.

I said "pop" for 59 years and then moved to the south.  Now it is "soda" but sometimes still "pop" in our house.  I don't even know what "Fuzzy Drink" is!

We say "soda" in southern Illinois. If you go up north towards Chicago, they'll say "pop." I didn't know that until a few years ago.

That's the interesting thing about linguistics. You can understand almost any of the dialects but they are all unique to their particular regions. I took a course in linguistics in college. It was absolutely fascinating.  :icon_rr:

It was pop in Illinois.  So, to me, it's always pop.  My husband says soda.

I am a MNtan.  Most people here say pop.  But I spent a summer in WI when I was a kid and everyone said soda.  I've been saying soda ever since.

It's soda here in the southwest, at restaurants you'll hear "soft drink" but people usually say soda. All my east coast family says pop.

I grew up in the Midwest, so it will always be pop for me. I personally don't drink any pop because I can't stand the taste of carbonation and the excessive amount of artificial sugars.

I use soda.  My parents grew up in the '60's and they use soda as well.  I believe those from the fifties or before called it 'pop'.  This was a word I always heard my grandmother say when she'd actually talk about soda fountains.  Soda fountains at ice scream shops made 'pop'.  It sounds weird now, but to them that lived it, it makes perfect sense.
