The initial training period for the pets is the worst of all.  But once you potty train things is so much better.  Still is like having another child.

My son, who is a sophomore in college, got a hedge hog his first week of the new semester. Than one of his room mates got a australian shephard puppy which, in turn, had my son get a puppy that has labrador, australian shephard, retriever and we all think a hint of pit bull. This puppy is extremely smart, mellow and well behaved. At nine weeks old the puppy had it's last accident ( it is twelve weeks old now), sits, stays, heels and is  trained to stop at street corners until given the command "okay". He doesn't beg and is currently in the process of getting service dog status. My son came home to visit with his pup last weekend and the pup was allowed in grocery stores and restaurants with a certificate showing that he was being trained to be a service dog. My son has even taken the pup to a hospital to visit with sick people.

We had dogs and cats for years and enjoyed every single one of them.  Just a few month ago we had to say goodbye to our last dog. He was 18 years old and was such a good dog.  We have no plans to get another pet of any kind.  Too much responsibility and hurts too much when you lose them.

I miss my cat that I had. I did not have her very long because it was too much work. I when my boys get older, I would like to get another cat. We have a bird now and it is going great.

Pets are great to have. When my dog died i went a few months without one but then decided to get one. Our home just does not seem complete without one.

once you get into a routine, you're good - cats are easy - just set the food out in another room the night before and open the door in the morning... might be a solution...  :peace:
