My grandson is obsessed with the game fortnite. Does anyone else have a problem with their kids and video games?

My daughter spends a lot of time playing Minecraft, although we do limit her time on it and we have her going out walking with us on a daily basis. It we put no restrictions on it, she would be playing it much more often and for much longer time periods. But now that school is back in session and she is involved in several other activities through school and dance, she will have less free time to binge play.

That is all that people are talking about. I have never played the game and to be honest I dont see what the draw is to  it. I have seen different people playing it, but to each their own!

Apparently my younger son spends most of his time playing PC games... But i don't know if it's really an issue because I haven't been allowed to see or speak to him in over 7 years.

Yes... but not with Fortnite, with minecraft mostly & now with online games played with other people.
I have rules.  The main one is you can't get on a computer until all your homework is completed.... I have done this since day one & they are trained well & get excellent grades.  So as long as they have a balance, I don't have a problem with it.  But the obsession to game is there for sure.... have to always keep an eye out it doesn't get out of control.

I think these games have subliminal messages that make you want to play more and more. lol  Kind of like they say with the popcorn and the movies.  I mean, the over whelming smell of the popcorn could not possible make you want it. haha

I enjoy gaming and such but I'm not addicted to it to be honest. I do on the other limit the amount of time my nieces gets to play Video games just to make sure they do something else.

Seems like for every season, we're concerned with what our children and other people's children are doing to spend their time. I don't like that kids are constantly playing games and not interacting with others.  I don't like it that people are walking down the streets while looking at their phones and running into things while not talking to the people who are with them.  :(

But it seems to be the way of life, if I may so tritely put it, that we're not going to be content with what's happening around us at many points in our life. So we do what we can and then we must let go. Most things turn out okay, if not exactly what we would like them to be.  :rainbow:

It's too early to be sermonizing, but there you go.  :angel11:

When my now 18 year old son was a few years younger and I would ground him... his punishment was to have friends over or go to friends houses.  When they were at my house I insisted they go outside.  He never understood this since they would just play games together in the same room instead of together over an ear piece.  It's a weird culture gamer's have.  Little turd- I got him a tent... so he and his buddies brought a t.v. and there game system out to the tent connected via extension cord!  Sheesh!

I never heard about this game until maybe a month ago and now it's alllll the rage.  It's this year's fidget spinner.

Ummm YES! I had to take away his PS4 from my son last night and he got into a temper tantrum at age 11! That game is highly addictive and he sneaks to play when I am not home.

Never been tempted to try it, I don't like fighting games that much. It will probably fade away soon; the last Big Game was PUBG (Player Unknown Battleground).

On the gaming front, a couple European countries are looking into the trend of lootboxes in games. You buy with real money (not game currency) a box that has a small chance of giving you valuable gear for the game. There's been a lot of backlash against this, these countries consider it gambling. And they have different laws for this type of internet gambling.
