I no longer have a child in school.  We did not home school.  I admire those that do it.  My husband and I both had to work full time so home schooling was not an option.    I've known many folks that did it, some successful, others not so successful.   The issue with those that I felt were not successful seemed to be socialization.  They didn't belong to home school groups that would get together.

I don't have kids but if I did, I would prefer home school over public school.

I didn’t homeschool.  When my girls were in school that was not an option.  Would I now, probably not.  My cousin did with her daughter and she missed out on a lot of school things, dances, parties, pep rallies, games, proms, and graduation.  I know those are not academic things, but they are part of belonging in a school.  Socialization is a huge part which you don’t get, even if there are groups it’s not the same as sitting in a classroom.  Just my opinion, sorry if I hurt any feelings of homeschooled moms, I think you do a great job.

My two sons are grown now but they were home schooled.  They did very well and my husband was disabled so he was able to help them in the day when I was gone to work and if I needed to I helped them at night.  Only problem is that the social aspect for them was lacking.  If I had it to do over I would try to do something different in that area.  But they are fine men so it is what it is at this point.

I did not home school my children. But back then there was not a computer. Just books, And they  turned out  great. But now I don't know what with  hubby as a sub. teacher and what I hear from him about some of the kids I think I would have home schooled plus sent them  to school also. There is  so much history and other things that are not being taught in school now that I think the children need to  know about. Also so there are so many that don't seem to even want to learn at all and are just there because the law requires them to be. then I  listen to some of kids in college now that can't even answer a simple question like who was the first President. They may be computer  smart.  but  as for history they are dumber then a sheep.

No, I do not homeschool my children.  I only have 1 child left in school.  The other 2 are adults.  I often considered homeschooling but it's a bit challenging in the state I'm in when it comes to divorced parents.  Working full time I honestly don't know how I would be able to make it work.  I know many families who do homeschool and it works for them.

I don't have kids but if I did I would send them to public school but also include teaching them things at home I feel that the public schools aren't teaching them.

:bunny:   :cat:   :dog: I don't have birth kids. If I did, I would think that I would still send them to a public school. Kids would make friends easier at a school vs being at home. Plus these days most parents need to work. If you can afford to stay home and home school. Thats still a good idea though.  :bunny:    :cat:   :dog:

There is good and bad with home schooling.  If you lock them away and they do not get socialization with others it is a bad thing because when they get out in the real world - and eventually they have to - then then do not know how to act.  I went to college with a guy who was home schooled and the only socialization he had was the cult or church as they called it - and once a month they went to the grocery store.  They were never allowed to watch tv, never allowed to listen to a radio.  The ONLY interaction he had was with his immediate family and the cult group he was a member of.  And yes, that is what it was.

He had a lot of problems when he was thrown out in to the real world.  I am actually surprised he was able to attend college at all.  Because it was an Information Technology field and not only did he get exposed to PEOPLE but the internet (which he had never been allowed to be on either).

Also know another family that had 3 kids and they were never exposed to any views other than their parents. And their parents were warped.

At the same time sending your kids off to the war zones we call schools is scary too.  But so is going to Walmart.

If you have been to the grocery store lately you know that a one person working household is not going to work very well.  And the mom staying home and taking surveys is not going to bring in enough extra money to justify her not working.  I know some say they make a 6 figure income working online a few hours a week. But I call BS on those stories.

When my 3 kids were growing up (They are grown now.) I sent the 2 oldest to Public School. When they went to Middle School and had nothing but problems. Like how they dressed and simple things like that. It was just about an everyday issue constantly getting calls to bring clothes and such. When my youngest got old enough to go to Middle school, I said to myself, I'm not going through this again and decided to Home School him. It was one of the best things that I had ever done. He got his Diploma through an accredited School (Penn Foster). He is now 25 and doing Great.
