When my 3 kids were growing up (They are grown now.) I sent the 2 oldest to Public School. When they went to Middle School and had nothing but problems. Like how they dressed and simple things like that. It was just about an everyday issue constantly getting calls to bring clothes and such. When my youngest got old enough to go to Middle school, I said to myself, I'm not going through this again and decided to Home School him. It was one of the best things that I had ever done. He got his Diploma through an accredited School (Penn Foster). He is now 25 and doing Great.

So they were violating the dress code?  I swear it doesn't seem to me like it is that hard to comply with the dress codes. The kids teeter on the edge and get as close as they can push it to not wear what they are suppose to.
FYI one of these days when you get a job (if you get a job) there will be a dress code and YOU MUST obey it or you will be sent home.  And a couple of willful violations and you will be let go.

To this day I still wonder what actually goes on in HomeSchool do the kids enjoy it ? is it better to teach them yourself or let them go to school ? Will they be sociable when they are done with HomeSchool and out in the world ?

     Education starts at home.
     Adults: Teach your children well...
and they will go a long way.
They will be successful in life...
be productive and solve real problems.
Then, send them to school...to learn even more!

Homeschooling was not an option when i was growing up. I think for some kids it is a great alternative to traditional school settings. The biggest drawback i see for most is the lack of the social aspect. :rainbow: :rose: :peace:

I probably told this story a number of times at this point, but I was a homeschool child and it was a GODSEND. Really grateful to my Mum for her dedication to me & my 3 siblings education.

As for the common concern, socialization, I've addressed this too. I've always been an introvert, when I was in school or out. My youngest sister is the same way, while my other brother & sister are extremely extroverts. Everyone is different. Some need an extra push to be social, but it's hardly like all homeschoolers are socially withdrawn zombies.

I do not think homeschool is good for the social aspect of life.  I think you need to be with other kids

We provided a very nurturing environment, always tested our kids, provided plenty of activities that were centered around learning and challenged them to be independent thinkers. We played lots of games and made sure to take off our work hats when we got home. Both kids went to a Montessori preschool. We found a public elementary school that only staffed individuals that had achieved a post graduate degree and had loving demeanors. Both kids learned to love to learn. my daughter went on to become the valedictorian at her school. My son gained access to a private school through testing. I do not think that home schooling, public schools or private schools work by themselves. Exposure to a loving family that tests a child's limits in tandem with a schooling choice appears to work in a great many child success stories that I have witnessed. I did notice a higher strain of socialization/maturity issues with two children that were home schooled. The children were exceptionally bright but tended to act differently than other children their age.

I wish I could home school my kids, I think that is the best way to go, but I can't because I am a single mother and I have to work. I just do what I can during the summer.

I did not home school my children. That was not something people did years ago. I feel it it good for children to go to school to have social interaction with others. However, I can understand and respect people who would prefer to home school their children.

I do not have children. However, if I did, I would not homeschool them. I wouldn't have the time with a full-time job.

I think it's great to home school your child/ren.  At least you will find out when they are graded fairly.
