I love maps! Maps for long road trips or just learning about the general area. Always have a map for backup at least, in case you don't have your phone/GPS with you or don't have a signal. Ran into that problem in Wyoming/Yellowstone. GPS for quickly finding very specific locations.

I will print a map from Mapquest or Google maps, to look at so I have an idea where I'm headed. Then I use my phone GPS for step by step instructions.

I have an okay sense of direction and can find my way without GPS if I am already familiar with the area. But no, I am not really capable of reading a paper map and finding my way (though I can sometimes make my own route with a digital map).

I use GPS all the time, but my husband likes to keep a map in the car for some reason.

When I am heading somewhere I will pull it up on Mapquest and check out the possible routes.  Then I make sure that my phone will take me the way I want to go.  It is handy to have the phone call out the route vs having to read directions.  But I would never just blindly rely on it,  I have friends with good stories about being taken down lil cow paths and bizarre mix ups.

we use GPS in the car...  but I like maps also.  I will always high lite the main route and then also high lite another route for the  fun of it.  if we have time we some times take a longer route.

I think that they both have their place. As a kid, I could always spend hours and hours looking at road maps and never get bored! Still love maps to this day.

I like the interactivity of GPS and like oldbuddy said, using Waze to be alerted to traffic issues and such is great. I also like the ETA functionality of a GPS.  But I've run into problems with using GPS as well - sometimes it CAN be wrong or lead you to not quite your final destination.  Also several times I've run into issues where it lost the signal and took longer to 'find' it than I had time available to me.

Those issues can be quite harrowing if you don't have a paper map Plan B.

I just print  a map off of Google and it gets me there every time.  So far I  have  never had a problem getting where I want to go.  Guess I am old fashioned  but it works for me. Once I have been some where I always know how to get there again. Hubby gets lost in the cities but never in the mountains.  So I rely on him then and he relys on me in the city.

The GPS has certainly made it easier to travel, believe me!

The real problem with GPS is that in some areas,
there is simply no signal. No signal areas are called
"black out areas".

gps is nice as long as your phone is working and my phone takes too much power to run it though

I can read a map of course! But why bother when it';s all at the touch of your fingers! I use Google maps most of the time and I like that they give you route options.
