Does getting blood drawn make you faint?
« on: September 21, 2018, 09:57:24 am »
Getting blood drawn always makes me woozy, but I had to get a few more vials than usual taken at the doctor's yesterday and I woke up halfway through with the nurse looking at me funny.  Blood draws always take really long with me for some reason, they have trouble finding my veins and it comes out slow. I'm well hydrated and fed, I look the other way, it barely hurts and I'm not afraid of it... but something about the idea of it just makes my brain go "Nope, bye"

Do you faint from blood and needles?

No - I have no problem with blood draws, but I know of some people who cannot donate blood for the same reasons that you are asking about.  Same with them - it isn't about fear or the process or anything like that.

I don't get woozy when my blood is drawn. I've given more than 8 gallons of my own blood to the American Red Cross. And they use some REALLY big needles there.  Anyway, giving blood makes me feel good because I'm helping someone else.  :angel11:

My oldest son has a terrible problem with any needle, though. He just can't stand it and I think it makes him feel rather faint. I think that happens to a lot of people.  :-\

Good thing it doesn't bother me as I have to have it done every  4 weeks , They are having a hard time getting my thyroid/Graves disease  to settle down. Going on 5 years now. It is the pits, too much meds and  it stops my thyroid then it takes several months get it back to normal then it jumps the other way. It is a pain in the you know what.

It never bothered me to get blood drawn. I was a little disturbed when an RN couldn't draw blood from either arm and had to call a Phlebotomist to do it.

Yes, it does make me feel faint. I always have to sit there a few minutes and drink some cold water.

I get blood drawn every few months. I have been asked a number of times if I am afraid of needles or I feel faint but that is one problem that I do not have.
