I would ask for help.  Stealing is not the answer.

Not sure what I would do. I don't like asking for handouts, but I would probably look for help.

Theft is a crime! Do not steal!
Ask for help. Someone will do
     something for you!

I would never steal anything. The Bible tells you that stealing is wrong

I'd probably steal. I never ask for help, I'm too stubborn and proud to ask for it. Plus, I grew up having to have to look out for myself with no one to turn to for help.

I would ask the store if I could see the manger and maybe I could mop the floor or do some odd job as payment for that item.

I wouldn't steal.  If I didn't have the money I wouldn't buy it.  I'd wait until I had the money.

I have never been in the position where I have not had the things that I "need". Items that are an absolute necessity have always been within reach for me: More than enough air to breath, I have never been without ample water, and been in a position where food can be obtained even in the worst times of my life. The body needs water the most but can go thirty days without food. I have gone two weeks without food but could easily have found a shelter or rummaged through garbage behind a restaurant. I have always had clothes but, once again, would be able to find a shelter in any of the cities I have lived in to provide me with clothes. I have lived in my car for six months when I could not afford housing. Some nights I would sleep in the office. This being said, I would not steal as there has always been an alternative for me.

I have a somewhat big family so I ask for help if I really needed it.

I would never steal.  It's among the 10 ten commandments.  I've gone without the basics in my life before so my kids could have what they need.  I used old socks as nursing pads. And a slew of other things that albeit it "roughing it" my kids were taken care of.  I would ask for help... not likely from strangers though.  More from family or church family.

I'm with Plennis and Nancy5.  I don't think I would steal, but if my baby needed diapers or formula, I could be desperate enough to do so.  You can't wait and save up for diapers.  Hard to say without being in that position.

There is no harm in asking for help however stealing is against the law! I would not want to be broke and in jail. Just saying.

I had been very poor when I was growing up. What we did was ask the local restaurant if we could purchase food on a tab (on account) and pay off a little bit each month when we got more money in. The local Italian restaurant owners made their fortune from the ground up so they understood and helped us out through my grammar school and middle school years.

The day I was able to make our final payment and buy food outright was a proud one for me. Each day we prayed for the owners and their families and thanked the Almighty for their generosity. If not for them we would have gone hungry.

So, I'm in the "ask for help" camp because those who help are also blessed!
