No.  In fact I imagine it won't have changed much even a year from now.  Unemployment is a lagging indicator in economics, for somewhat obvious reasons if you take a few minutes to think about it.

Dropping as in returning closer to the normal 4% or getting worse than the almost 10%?  I truly hope companies stop downsizing because it seems like the economy is at least becoming stable again, but it will probably continue to increase over the next 6 months.

Ahhh the naivety of spoiled people...
Jobs are hard to come by in a lot of places right now. That's why this thread was created. If you're going to be a douchebag, don't post.

Do you see the unemployment rate dropping in the next 6 months?

You know that is a very good question. And I believe it is very hard to asnwer. I wish we would knwo honestly. But truthfully I don't think we do and we will just have to wait and see. I believe it varies day to day. So it's hard to tell.

I hate to be a negative naacy, but I do not see the unemployment rate changing anytime soon. This economy stinks and too many people are out of work. The bailout did nothing to stimulate the economy, it just lined the pockets of the rich and is taking from the poor. I have not heard of any real plan that anyone has to reduce unemployment. Without a plan there cannot be progress.

I also hate to say it, but i don't think it will drop in six months.  It's really sad.

The unemployment rate is about 9.8% now. I think it will stay around 10% for the next year then slowly drop. A lot of baby boomers will go into retirement which will slow the unemployment rate in the first place (Someone retires, an unemployed person takes his place).

I agree that the baby boomers will start retiring soon, but not at the rate that we need them to. They need jobs as bad as all of us. I saw a news report where several baby boomers were planning to stay at their current place of employment until they were forced to retire. The baby boomers are no where near forced retirement age. I really do not see this rate dropping in the next six months, or even a year. I think we are in for a long haul folks, so strap in, hold on, and enjoy the ride, it's gonna be a bumpy one.  :BangHead:

Lexus you are right. The rate does not count those who have exausted unimployment benefits and have given up looking for work.

I wish it would drop but I fear that it will get higher.

I was unemployed from Feb to last month.  Finally landed a good job using a temp service.  According to them, it is slowly turning around.
