Florida Pythons
« on: November 08, 2018, 07:14:32 pm »
My son came to me a few years ago and wanted to go hunting. He said it was only fair taht he get the opportunity since I grew up in Wisconsin and had an Uncle that took me hunting/fishing. I told him times were different, that we didn't need the meat and I don't agree with trophy hunting/sport fishing but I would give it some thought. I read an article about wild Boar being a vicious pest down south so I took him on a boar hunt and donated the meat to a charity. Now I want to take him down to the Everglades to catch a python and help the Water Management Python Elimination program. My son is a little nervous but I told him we would be helping the environment-the pythons are invasive- greatly reducing the wildlife population. I just sent my son an article about a guy who caught a 17.5 foot/120 pound python.

Good luck to your son on "bagging" a python. Unfortunately, yes, it is an invasive species in Florida that was caused by irresponsible humans. SMH. Sadly, the animal has to suffer. I wonder how successful this python elimination program is.

Lots of times there is a over load of animals , and they need to be reduced in numbers , its funny  that the animal rights people can't get a grip on this.

Pythons have taken over the Everglades - everyone is entitled to their opinion but stupid people having pets that are not indigenous to a state are ruining the ecosystem.  Some of these snakes got loose during Hurricane Andrew and some idiots just let them loose when they had to leave their homes.  Sorry it just ticks me off -  I hope you guys are able to get rid of enough of them to help.

I used to own snakes. I never purchased wild-caught because I equate that with poaching. I always got my snakes from people whose snakes had babies or reputable breeders. I kept them well and they all lived a good life in good habitats.

I can't believe how irresponsible some people can be. I would never in a million years think of releasing my scale babies into a habitat that they weren't natives of. Especially when there are so many people who would love to adopt them and give them a good home. That would be akin to releasing a dog in the wilderness thinking it can figure out how to survive. It's just laziness and not wanting to do research to find rescues or homes for them.

Some people shouldn't be allowed to have pets, snakes or otherwise.

Killing these animals (even though I would hate them) just because is no different.

All species are important in the  Balance of Nature.  Sadly, human beings have ruin nature's equilibrium.  And that ticks me off too. (Debidoo)

I guess they found a place to live. It's a scary thing thinking snakes are everywhere. Can you imagine about maybe 1000 snakes swim passed you as you are sitting along visiting tour of Florida swamp vacation.
