Government shut downs hurts our 401k with effect on the market. All my work hard money just gone.

The DOW is up almost 1,000 points from the start of the shutdown. Your 401K has likely gained value since the start of the shutdown.

Kind of humorous, and totally expected, that one of the replies to this post blamed a party that took control of the house more than ten days after the shut down was initiated. No poll has produced results that giving any semblance of majority support for the building of a wall (Mexico was going to pay for it? lol) which appears to be the major sticking point in negotiations. The average of several polls (including extreme news agencies like CNN and Fox) show that fifty four to fifty seven percent of Americans oppose the wall. Sixty six percent feel that the wall should not be a priority. Sixty percent disapprove of how congress has handled the shutdown. Thirty eight percent approve of the President's handling of the shutdown while forty nine percent disapprove. This has been good for the President as only sixty one percent of America disapprove of him as of day 716 in office. Although he has the lowest approval rating, compared to the last ten presidents, he is only two percent lower than Bill Clinton was (during the Lewinsky affair) and Ronald Reagan (during the Iran Contra debacle). I find the shut down to be somewhat comical and believe it highlights how unnecessary so many governmental functions are. Kind of ironic that, in the face of the shut down, current administration leaders are in up for pay increases.

Reality is, the Republicans don't control the Senate -- they only have a simple majority. In the Senate, a party needs 60 votes to "control" the Senate.  60 votes are needed to bring a bill out of Cloture (the discussion phase) to bring it to the floor for the actual vote... only during the actual vote do you need a simple majority, but first you need the 60 votes.

What happened to China is paying for the wall?  Who remember that chant?  I never heard where our tax dollars would pay for it.  I guess the ones not getting paid will receive back pay from China also.  The only time people really want to work without getting paid is when they volunteer.  If someone asked you to do surveys or work for free, how many would jump at that.  If you work for a salary, you should receive your check.  We happy to get a cent here on FC and will complain if we think it's late or gets revoked.  Everyone needs money.

Your percentages are BS.  The only way these polls would be accurate is if you ask every single AMERICAN CITIZEN who is at least 18 years old and in their right mind.  I was not asked my opinion. So there fore you cannot say x percentage of Americans approve or disapprove because you did not poll every American citizen.

First off, there is only ONE HOUSE.  And it passed the HOUSE.  the hold up is in the SENATE. The democrats are who are voting against this. I cannot grasp why people want to deny this when it is public knowledge. The democrats have been VERY OPEN in saying they will vote AGAINST ANYTHING that President Trump wants to do.

It is like the idiot who screamed impeach the M...F....er (she is a dumocrat) and her own party has disowned her.
If they didn't impeach the last president they can't impeach Trump.  This is the problem - everybody is so busy fighting with each other they are too distracted to see what is happening right in front of them. And when they wake up it is going to be too late.

Exactly.  And we can's save the world.  We are already over crowded. Everybody cannot move to the United States.

Sad thing is they come here to escape their horrible country and then want to change us to be the country they fled from.  smh

LOL We do surveys for free all the time.  And they are not working for free.  They will get paid.

As far as China paying for the wall - I have no idea what you are talking about.  Must be a CNN fake news story.

Always a fall back to fake news unless the statistics support their beliefs. D- for originality. When faced with reality becomes time to start throwing out Limbaughisms or the sheer objective Hannity point of view (LOL). The wall is poorly planned: six feet deep which leaves at least fifty four feet of space with which to dig under the wall. What happened to Mexico Paying for it? The request for five billion is not even twenty percent of what the true cost would be and Mexico has indicated that not a single peso will be spent by them. The government can not even afford to stay open...what will another thirty billion dollars, for a fence that easily to circumvent, do to our budget? And then we can begin work on a fence to keep Canadians out?

It was Mexico, not China.

I can't say that it is no big deal since it does effect government workers.  But it's not uncommon and I don't remember people making a big deal about it before.  At least not like this time.  There seems to be an alternative motive to making this a big deal.
