Kids vs Pets
« on: January 10, 2019, 07:15:45 am »
There was a news story (I did not read the story) about a woman who had a dog who was let out of her house when her house was broken in to while she was not at home.  She was just gone about 3 hours.

The dog was lost and I am not sure if she has found the dog because all I read was the snip under the picture.  I did read some of the comments and one of the first was a woman who is berating the home owner saying she is a horrible person and if you would not leave a baby alone for 3 hours you should not leave your dog home alone for 3 hours.

SMH I cannot grasp the stupidity of people these days.  Pretty much nobody can afford to pay roughly $10 an hour for a pet sitter to stay with their dog or cat.  Pets are just that - they are pets.  Yes, I love mine but they are not the same as kids or parents.  And certainly leaving a dog home alone is not the same as leaving a baby home alone.   ::)

I totally agree with you.  Pets are definitely part of our family but unlike children they can be left alone for a few hours. I grew up with dogs and  most dogs can't be left alone for three hours without a problem.  :rainbow: :peace:

Well mine can be left alone all day. lol.  I have to work.  Most people do.  They usually do not even make a mess or anything.  They are animals.  Animals have lived outside for eons and they were fine.  They were not meant to live indoors and wear clothes and live like people.  Mine do stay inside and have a pretty good life but I do not condemn people who have outdoor pets.

It amazes me that people who get the most upset about a dog being outside on a semi cold night are not that upset about homeless people who sleep outside on the sidewalk.

We leave our parrot alone for several hours each day. He has food and water and toys he can play with. The goldfish don't care how long we are gone as long as they get fed once a day.  Now you can't say those things about a child. Granted, I've cried my eyes out for every pet I've lost. But a human being is God's greatest creation not the dog, or parrot or cat or goldfish.

Are you a stay at home person for your pet, if you work, then who keeps your pet, as long as that pet is trained, it can be taught to go to the bathroom, on its mat or pallet, or litter box, whatever the case may be. She is not being cruel to animals for letting her pet stay at home for only 3 hours, lots of working people are away from home longer than that.

Did you even read the post?  "I" am not the one who said it.  I said it was in the comments where someone called her out.  I did mention I love my pets but I am not physco about it.  I also have no problem with people who have pets outdoors.

No, I don't have a cat sitter to watch my cats watch tv during the day. LOL. My pets are extremely important to me but who has the money?

I completely agree with you. It's not neglect to leave your pet home alone for several hours during the day. Just as long as they have access to water and food, are able to move around/play, and relieve themselves, they are fine on their own. No pet should be abused or mistreated but sometimes I feel that people nowadays think that too much counts as abuse or neglect.

Well I agree 100% with you pets are not children.  You may treat them like one, but the can definitely stay home alone all day,as long as they have food water and in the case of my little dog, newspaper for her needs.  WE have 2 dogs home and both of them stay home alone all day, we have jobs and school and the dogs cannot go with us. Some people is so stupid when it comes to their pets, I have actually seen people treating their pets better than their children, CRAZY!!

My Children are grown now and I have two Dogs now that I consider my Children. I keep them at the Vet when they need their shots or get sick. Sometimes I think my Dogs show me more respect than my Kids do. I would never choose my Dogs over my Kids at all though.

Very true.  People are pansy snowflakes and are screwed up in their thinking about a lot of things.  I have even seen, and probably from ya-hoos on here saying that if you have a dog and it stays outside you should be charged with abuse and not allowed to have them.  Dogs, cats, animals in general will be fine outside.  They do need some sort of shelter. But they are not people.

What kind of vet do you have that lets you leave your pet with them when they are sick? My vet doesn't keep them unless they need an IV or something really serious is going on.  If they are sick, which is not often as they are not exposed to outside elements or other animals, he gives me the meds and I take care of them at home.

I have both children (grown and on their own) and both cats and dogs.  I love my pets with all my heart and they are very very important to me.  Do I leave them alone for hours, yes they are fine in the house.  The pets all get along and the cats have their litter boxes (strictly indoor cats) and the dogs are housebroken,  and they all  have free run of the house, if we go overnight I will have one of my friends or daughters stay in my house because the dogs can’t hold it for 24 hours.  If we go on vacation the same thing happens or I will board them at the daycare the dogs go to and someone will come to feed the cats and change litter boxes.  Like I said my pets are very important and I love them.  With that being said, my girls and their families are much more important to me than my pets, my family is my life and I value them more than the pets.  I will never understand people, do you know where you read that countrygirl?  what a stupid remark that lady made.
