Serena
« on: January 23, 2019, 06:25:42 pm »
Serena Williams is five foot nine inches and has stated that she weighs two hundred pounds. After watching her match last night I think that her weight may have been underestimated and would have guessed her to be closer to weighing two hundred and forty pounds. Her serve was awesome, and she is the best female tennis player of all time, but the extra weight seemed to inhibit coverage of the full court. Serena has had several rolled ankle accidents but I can not help but feel that her weight contributed to last nights rolled ankle and subsequent forfeiture/loss. The optimal weight for someone who is five foot nine is between one hundred and thirty to one hundred and sixty pounds. Trying to make quick turns, pivots and stops with an extra fifty pounds has to be like an eighteen wheel, fully loaded truck trying to stop in a short distance. I am surprised that her coach let her play and has not required that she get back into shape.

Yes, I, too have noticed that she has gotten quite big.  Sooner or later it will catch up with her if she doen't make needed changes.

If she wants to continue to dominate the court, she would do well to shed some of that weight.  Otherwise someone with the skill and speed will overtake her.

LOL Now when I see an 18 wheel truck on the road, I'm going to think of Serena Williams.   :silly:

I think she looks great.  I would not have guessed she weighed that much.

I do not know who this is. May have to check it out. I will say I do not think I have ever seen a tennis player that was featured in a match on TV that was over weight. Most are really slim. I will have to look in to this. :D

betlynjna:  That was not a nice thing to say about someone. comparing her to an 18 wheeler, you should look at yourself.  Serena have alway been a little thick and I know she do not weight 200lbs.  All of us wish we could move that her.  Check yourself!!!

I don't watch tennis, but I like to play it. I didn't know she weighs that much. That is a lot of weight to carry up and down the court so fast. She is great at what she does though.

130-160 lbs for a 5'9" woman is based on BMI for an average person. BMI is a joke for an athlete. My husband lifts weights and is very fit, but according to BMI he is obese. There's a big difference between 200 lbs of mostly fat and 200 lbs of mostly muscle.
