Leg cramps
« on: February 02, 2019, 10:15:40 am »
I just thought about this a couple of days ago because I was waking up to a leg cramp. I take magnesium which works pretty well to keep them at bay. But if I feel one coming on now, I just flex my foot (you know; pulling your toes up instead of pointing them down) and it goes right away.

Hope it works for others as well as it does for me.  :angel11:

I have tried that flexing and it doesnt work for me, I usually get them right as Im waking up but not quite awake yet, and Im apparently stretching my legs/feet, I bolt right up out of bed and stand up and walk them out, otherwise they hurt like crazy

sometimes I get a leg cramp in the middle of the night. I hate that but I just let it work itself out. I also have to get up every so often when I am  online so I can stretch instead of being stiff.

I get them, so I take Magnesium, Vitamin D.  Flexing doesn't help me.  Also, eat bananas often.  The potassium.

Might just be coincidence, but I used to get these quite often in the same circumstances (stretching while sleeping/just waking up)... I don't think I've had one :::knock on wood::: since I started walking a few miles every day. I've had other leg muscle issues from time to time from using them more often, but none of those brutal "that got me fully awake fast!" cramps.

But like I said - it is probably just coincidence and I've now jinxed myself by saying it!

I've always done that , seems to work.  I used to get foot cramps often   but I don't get them as much now. :)

I will flex sometime also if it's not very painful.  Most times I massage and let it work itself out.

     Lower salt and sugar intake
Take a warm bath in your bathtub
     Drink more water
     Hand massage your legs
     Do not wear tight clothing
     Moderate leg exercise

I have been having a lot of leg and foot cramps at night lately.  Trying to eat more bananas so maybe that will help.
Have a wonderful day!

I don't get them often but when I do I gently rub the cramped muscle to help it relax.

Hubby takes magnesium and drinks tonic water. That helps him. He used to get cramps quite often in his right hand and leg.  I used to get bad cramps in my legs, but I ate bananas and that helps.

I was told when you get cramps you are dehydrated. Drink plenty of water and that helps me.
