Has anyone ever done any of the DNA Ancestry kits. What kind of results did you get? I did 23 and me but was disappointed with the results, I really did not learn much.

No, I've never tried any of them.  I'm just not interested.  My sisters are into tracing our family history and stuff and I try to be  interested when they talk about it …. but I just can't. :)

I don't know anything about 23 and me, but I did an ancestry.com DNA test years ago. It was before they started selling them. I got mine for free as a "beta" test. It was pretty vague information at first. But as more people do the tests, the more my information shifts. My results used to be more southern European, which I always knew was inaccurate. But now, it has shifted north into Germanic and Eastern Europe, possibly Norway and Russia, which is more plausible. Did I learn anything new? Not really. But it's fun to see when they make updates what has changed, and you can find a ton of cousins and other distant relatives with similar DNA.

I haven't, but I would like to.  Could be very interesting.

bought the 23andME for my son and twice he tried with the saliva test and they said he did not have enough DNA to do a test and they refused to ever test him again, after trying twice... so twilight zone...

I have not try it, my niece and nephew did and it seem accurate for them, since thy only share half of the genes with me.  If I had the $$ the spare I probably will just to see if is plausible.  I know for certain that at least 75% of my genes are European ans hte other not sure, but i will try it at some point just to see.

I did Ancestry.com.  There was a problem the first time but they sent me a second kit and tested me free. Customer service is very good.

I am happy with results and have done some research.  Some distant cousins got in touch with me. However, it is not as simple as the ads imply.

I have been very busy and have not gone to Ancestry.com for some time. There is lots of research available. I have not even taken my two weeks free trial yet because I do not have the time for research ..

Once the free trial is over, you have to pay to continue doing research and getting in touch with relatives. And it is pricey.

By the way, this is on the wrong board. It should be on the "Everything not having to do with Fusion Cash".

Just like my great grandfather, your son was hatched (I can't document his parents even though I have ggf's testimony who they are through his documents)! :)

I didn't do the DNA testing. I'm paranoid that it might wind up in the hands of the government. Anyway, on my paternal side, I'm German/Alsace (France)  and on maternal sie I'm English with 'maybe" Scotch/Irish.  :D

So I really don't know if the DNA would tell me anything new.

I've kinda wanted to do this for a while now, but it will have to wait. I'm not in a financial position where I feel comfortable spending the money on this currently. Maybe when I get a little more financially stable it will be something I can do. My family is kind of vague about my mixed European ancestry.

I had to do it twice also but the second time worked, I did not get the results I was hoping for tho.
