Weird call yesterday

I received a call yesterday a man asking to speak to my brother.  Weird because I haven't seen or heard from my brother in 8 years since our mom died.  He had lots of problems and issues and I have no idea where he is...............the caller was a real jerk and now I think it was law enforcement because I decided to call the number back and it was different than unknowns that come from collectors etc. I told him never to call me again but it was very upsetting.  I just hope my brother is ok no matter what has happened between us.

It doesn't have to mean anything. It could be totally innocent. If it were law enforcement they would have identified themselves to you. Who did they say they were when they called?  He could have put you down as a contact person a long time ago.  I received a weird call, but it really wasn't, form someone looking for my cousin.  They asked me to give her a message.  I was surprised and they said she put you as a contact person.  I called her and told her what the call was and she said yeah she had put me down. They had tried to reach her but was unable to for whatever reason.  I have had that happen at least 2 other times.

I don't understand what "I decided to call the number back and it was different than unknowns that come from collectors etc. " means.  I would not have called the number back.  I do not know what you told the caller but no matter because it is too late.

I would google the number that showed up on the caller ID and see who it comes back to.  You would be surprised what all you can find out online.  Sometimes I wish we had ways to PM each other (if both parties agreed)  You seem concerned so if I could help you know who the caller is I would.

If you google the number you can see who it is registered to.  If it comes back to a specific company call the main phone number you find online.  Ask them who they are.  Tell them what happened.  Be vague.  Someone from your company called me and ask to speak to a family member that I have had no contact with in almost 10 years. How can I find out what this call is about.  But don't smart off to them.  There is a reason they called you.  And the person you are talking to is just doing a job and being hateful with them is not going to get you anywhere.  I have worked customer service and I am much more willing to help someone being nice to me than someone that starts out being smart.  No matter what their reasons.  Maybe the person calling you doesn't know you have not seen him in 10 years.  If something had happened to him you would have been told that.  Most likely in person.

I would not get too smart with them until I knew who they were.  Has your brother been in trouble with the law?
If it is a bill collector I would tell them not to call me.  Call him.

Have you done any type of google search to try to locate him?  You can google his name and the last city and state you know of that he lived in.  Have you looked on Facebook to try to find him?

I hope your brother is ok too.  Is there anyone who knows where he is that you can contact to see if he's ok?

Wow, some weird call. I hope you find your brother and that you find him ok. I haven't seen my sister for a while too since she got kicked out. Last time we talked she got her attitude and all. Taking out what my mother did to her on me.

Law enforcement does not always and does not have to identify themselves.  They could be trying to track him down for some reason.  One of the ways we use to see if people were around was to call and tell them we were in the area giving out quotes for painting or some other house repair to see if they were at home.

I really hope that your Brother is ok and maybe you and he can repair your Relationship. We are not promised Tomorrow and Family is very Important. My Husband and Sister were that way for years and years and now they are so close. I hope you Two will be close again some day very soon.

I've had calls like that where someone put me as a contact and forgot to tell me...and it had been a few years that they had put me down...

Real law enforcement would've identified themselves. This sounds like a shot-in-the-dark scam. Did they refer to your brother specifically? Anyone can call some random number and have a decent chance that whoever picks up has a brother.

I agree that they do think they are slick and I don't think they would necessarily identify themselves even if they were law enforcement.  I was raised to respect law enforcement and I have at 65 never been in any kind of trouble but I have had enough interaction with them to have lost a great deal of my respect for them. At the end of the call the guy said he'd make sure to let my brother know I didn't want to see or talk to him and that really ticked me off and I informed him I didn't need him or anyone else passing on any messages on my behalf.

That's not just a weird call, it's downright mean.  My husband and I run a business. When we make business calls we always identify ourselves.  That's how business should be run.  If a caller does not identify themselves for any reason, that is a major red flag - especially in a case like that. 

I don't know what kind of 'business' this jerk of a guy is running or what business he has to giving you a hard time like this but it is very shady in my opinion.

I am praying that your brother is OK first off second off please be careful there are so many scams out there it could be a scam trying to get information just please be careful

I would tell them I don't need you to paint/repair my house and you do not need to come to my house and hang up on them.

I do not see how it could be legal for law enforcement to call me and lie about who they are when trying to find another family member.
