Some business people have no ethics
« on: March 25, 2019, 11:27:25 am »
I had a company mow my grass and they were supposed to get my sprinklers "unclogged" and set up to run again as well as spray for weeds.  Well they mowed and I went to take a shower before they were going to do the sprinklers and weeds and I came back out before getting in the shower to grab something and pretty much saw their truck hauling butt lol out of the neighborhood.  When my son came over to go out to eat he said the system was completely off, the sprinklers still clogged with grass and we are betting the weeds are here to stay.  If they didn't have time to do it all they should have said so but when I texted the owner to ask about the sprinklers he said yea they are fine.  I texted him back today and told him to bill me for mowing but I wasn't going to have him do anymore work. What is it with people.  I am 65 and disabled and I feel like thinks those two things also mean I am stupid which I am not.

Unfortunately, some workers are out of their mind...they just do not care.
Hope you have better luck next time!

I don't know about where you live but in my area there are about 40 fly by night mowing services in my small county.  Everybody and their bother goes and buys a lawn mower and calls themselves mowers and goes and knocks on doors and gets people to let them mow for them.

I had a guy suppose to weed eat the 2 front banks in front of my house.  He said he did (I was not home) and he was paid.  I came home and he had not even touched the banks.  He was still swearing he weed eated.  I am like well where?  He was an idiot and just reinforced you cannot trust anyone.

Most people are going to do as little as possible and for the most money they can suck out of you.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. It is hard to trust anyone these days. Almost impossible to find a trustworthy mechanic/HVAC person/or plumber. Our furnace went down during the coldest day in January. My regular HVAC person was laid up with a broken leg but steered me through making the repair myself. Unfortunately I needed a part that had to be ordered and would have taken forty eight to seventy two hours to get and my family was cold so we called a contractor that charged us eight hundred dollars for the fifty dollar part. My guy said that he could've replaced my entire furnace for eleven hundred dollars. My son and I will help out some of the elderly in our neighborhood by cutting, edging and trimming their lawns for free. Often times the neighbors will see what a good job we have done and will ask to have us do their lawn as well. My son is generally jammed on summer days with lawn cutting referrals.

I am really curious where you can get a heat and air unit for $1100?  I paid over $5000 for mine and we put the unit in ourselves so what we paid was just for parts.

As for paying $800 to get your unit fixed - that is not surprising.  You were not just paying for the part but their time as well.  People with skills, education, and licenses to do things get paid well for their time.  Especially in situations where it is really cold or really hot and people want it done NOW.

I have lived in a house with no electricity in the summer as well as in the winter.  You will live.  People are too coddled these days.

I'm afraid there are businesses that are like that.  I see more and more people being scammed on the news.  And at an older age like me, it is scary.  How do we know who to trust??????

I no longer  trust anyone coming up to my door to mow or do handyman work. Have not  in years.  I would rather pay someone  a little more for the same  job and know that it will get  done.  come summer time it seems like  every  person in the  town  are pushing  lawn mowers up and down the streets wanting to mow  your  lawn.  No  way would I trust any of them.  some  amy be legit but most all they want is money for drugs or booze.  Hubby is gone a lot and I am alone here so I won't even open the door for some of them.

If the sprinklers and weed spraying was included in the price, I wouldn't pay them until they do it.  Otherwise, yeah.  I've met mechanics who do the same.

When I have any service person to my house I am always home and pretty much stand over them as they work.  I don't care if they don't like it or it makes them nervous because it's my home and my money.  About the only thing where there is an exception to this is the lawn.  However, I have fired people over jobs repeatedly not well done.  For example, several years ago I had a lawn mowing business that started out well but during the course of the summer got more and more sloppy about their work. After 1 complaint and 4 occasions of this type work, I called and told the owner, "Nothing's changed.  I'll send a check.  Please don't come back because you won't get paid."

Yes, you are right. Try to check them out before hiring them to do the work.

I know how you feel.  I had a man who mowed my yard and as long as I was at my house everything was great.  For the last couple of years I'm not at home when he comes and I don't think he has done the best job.  I paid him to cut back my hedges and that has never been done.

lol The "landlord" is not responsible for mowing your yard when you rent a house.

Yeah we have that here.  Everybody has a mowing business.  My first question would be are you licensed and insured.  Because if not if they are hurt on your property they can sue you if they get hurt.  Saying they just want the money for drugs or beer is unfair.  Jobs are hard to find.  Mowing yards is a good way to earn some money.
