I heard about this and it made me so sad— I do try to recycle and cut all plastics that I think can get stuck around necks and limbs  I don’t release balloons into the air — I try to always remember the animals— we need to be a voice for them !

I try to lead by example. My pre-made lunches and breakfasts are brought to work in re-usable glass containers. I have a double walled sixty four ounce water bottle that i refill twice a day. My coffee beans come in an aluminum bag, are ground, made into coffee and enjoyed in a double walled aluminum container. I use two canvas bags when shopping at the grocery store rather than using plastic bag convenience. I don't preach about saving the world's ecology but have had several people ask about my habits (nor do I go off on tangents about crazy politicians in New York-lol) but have had at least a dozen people follow suit and come to me with other ideas that can benefit our world's ecological future. I have no problem picking up someone else's plastic water bottle and placing it in a garbage can. I also recycle about twenty dollars worth of Aluminum/scrap metal per month. Every little bit helps.

I reuse the Walmart bags for trash bags.  So that is no different than buying a roll of plastic bags and then throwing those away.

I never throw plastic in any body of water,,,  or trash either.  it bothers me to see people do this.  I have seen poor ducks and birds with bags stuck on them and other birds and animals with bags and such on them.  its is horrible

Amaze how people still don't know how to recycle you can even earn some extra pocket money from selling bottles and such.

People need to be more aware and stop throwing trash on the side of the roads.  That is what a trash can is for so please start using them.

I saw that story about the whale. I felt sorry for it. I try to recycle as much as possible and I always feel bad when I have to throw things in the garbage. I wish everything was recyclable.

I think plastic is one of the things that man has invented that we could do without.

I live in a town home and our HOA will not provide recycling bins due to 1). cost and 2). people were throwing trash in them and/or not sorting correctly.

However, I've always recycled. I just bring in all my recyclables to my office, because they do provide recycling.

I bet the ocean creatures don't like it either. *bleep* that is a lot. Did you know that when you buy plastic products they decompose into that product than we use it too.... awh love glass but glass breaks. nothing like the stone age  :rose:

I have recycled all my life and have been composting for the last handful of years as well. I realize my personal impact is small but you'd be surprised at the volume of trash you personally can avoid contributing to a landfill.

It isn't that people do not know "how".  People don't care. It is easier to throw it in the trash. And you can't earn extra pocket money from recycling.  Maybe the aluminum cans. But an entire truck load will yield around $10 to $15 so it really isn't worth it.  I don't know of any where that pays you for glass bottles any more.

And it depends on where you live.  In my area the recycling program is more aggravation than anything so people will quit doing it.

Only way to stop this is to tackle the root of the problem.....stop making plastic.(we all know that this is not going to happen).

I believe in recycling but for ever person that recycles there is at least twenty litterbugs.  It's not just plastic.  Driving down the road you see people hurl their cigarette butts out the window.  One does not recycle everything, but waste not recycles shouldn't be littering the ground either if one is actually serious about saving the environment.
