Safety Using Ride Share Services
« on: April 02, 2019, 11:33:47 am »
Would you feel safe either using or driving for a ride share service?  I'm asking after all the problems they've had but particularly after the young woman in South Carolina was abducted and murdered. For myself, I would never use one unless I had no other choice.  I would also try not to ride alone, ask the driver his name and look that it matches his ID before closing the car door, and lastly, ask who they are supposed to be picking up.

I would never use a service like this.

The woman in SC was not abducted by a ride share service.  She was drunk and got in to a man's car that she in her drunken state thought was an Uber driver.  Lesson learned...don't get so drunk you don't know where you are or what you are doing.

If some drunk just got in my car they are likely to get shot on the spot.

I have used Uber but with a group of people when going on a cruise.  I would not consider driving for them.  My female friend is a driver and she's told me some horror stories like people trying to make out, throwing up in her car, wanting to fight, and much more.

I have used with group rides as well as solo & never had a problem; I always have driver to say who they are there to pick up and text friend or family to let them know I am entering  into car ; I would never drive for a ride share service as I don't even like driving my own car for personal use!

I have used a riding service but as much as I use these kind of service cars, I would  take a regular cab because they are a lot cheaper and they get you there just as fast

I like the idea of ride sharing for people who get to make some money, but I personally have never used it because I don't feel safe. I rather use a taxi.

No I would not feel safe and these young people need to be more careful than they are -I couldn't tell from news if that was even her ride or she assumed it was and just got in with this guy.  Life out there is so evil.

There is no way I would ride with any of these people. Granted I know they are all not bad people, however I do not take chances. Would rather be safe then sorry. If I could not drive myself or get a family member or friend to take me I just would stay home.

I have felt safe using Uber in the past, but now that this girl got killed who got into a car thinking it was an Uber ride when it wasn't, I think you are right in suggesting we all ask for more info before we get into any car we think is an Uber or Lyft ride.

Taxi drivers can kill people too. Haven't you seen the movie!?  :o

But seriously, I've never used Uber or Lyft, and I only use taxis on rare occasions usually when traveling. The dealership gave me a courtesy ride last December to pick my Jeep up at the shop, and that was very uncomfortable for me. I have anxiety just being one-on-one with acquaintances and co-workers.

Just curious, but how did they know what the dead girl was thinking when she got into that car?

This was not a matter of hitch hiking.
