if you are on doctors meds, then these will give you some form of side effect.

Tabasco sauce seems to be a bit extreme but has backing from some of our most solid members! Exercise definitely works for me. I did a twelve week body transformation challenge and noticed that I needed eight hours of sleep (plus naps) when I was out of shape and only five to six hours of sleep when I was in optimal shape. I have a cup of Deathwish coffee every morning and that staves off all napping thoughts and sleep needs for up to nineteen hours a day. A lot of College students/ working professionals abuse adderall/ritalin to get through a day. Truckers and people working double shifts get prescriptions for pro-vigil which is said to keep people awake/alert for up to twenty hours. Keeping your mind active is a healthy alternative to the prescription revolution as well. Low testosterone has been a culprit in people's need to sleep more. I think the best advice was to consult your doctor.

Do you eat a lot of candy? I think people who indulge in sweets are tired all the time. I do know if I eat too much sweets I get very tired.

A couple of my meds make me  sleepy, and if I am not moving around a lot I will take a cat nap of and on.  On Tuesday and Thursdays  I worked my tail off for  four hours, come home and take  my other meds and fall asleep for an hour or so.  Need it then to refresh my  body, otherwise I am really dragging the rest of the day.

Not saying you're depressed, but I know when I'm feeling down, sleep during the day happens a lot. Or boredom. I hardly ever take a nap otherwise. Of course, I'm not working outside the home now, when I was it sure felt like I could nap at just about any time while I was there! But work was pretty boring at times so that's probably why. I agree with others, get up and go for a walk or do a little cleaning. :)

Maybe you need more exercise? I feel more sleepy the more I sit around, like binging Netflix. Got to get up and move around a lot, keep the blood flowing and metabolism kicking.

Reduce your sugar intake and don't do a heavy meal in the am, as said do some exercise too, take breaks in between as well.

It's hard for me to exercise because of my leg. As soon as I walk it swells up. I'm supposed to elevate when it swells.   I can't get on my knees, can't jump, can't get on tip toes because of the split calf muscle, can't cross my legs when sitting (as in yoga), etc. Not much I can do in that dept.

The only sugar I take in is whatever is in the food and I only have 1 cup of coffee every morning with Truvia. I'm diabetic and hypothyroidism and Hashimoto's. Take metformin, glimiperide and levothyroxin.

I'll have to check out the daily energy routines. As for sleep apnea, I don't think so. This happens every few months where I can't stay awake. Then I'm okay for months. It's just frustrating.  I have a Dr. visit next month if i remember. Sometimes he's rushed  just wants to be in and out so I have to be quick, too.

Tabasco sounds really scary to me. I don't think I want to try that!

I do have a boring life since I don't get out and all I do during the day if I don't clean is sites like this one, read the paper, and genealogy.

Sorry about your situation. Other options are reduce your food intake in a sense that you consume high quality foods/vegetables/fruits, and not quantity, etc too much all at once. Tap up on your amino acids, include the BCAA and also  B vitamins, as these aren't stored by the body except for B12.

Your body chemistry seems to out of balance especially like how you are on medications, as these will give you side effect.

Try to social some more as well as this may help your body break this cycle of falling asleep at these times.

A lot of that has to do with exercise and nutrition!

You can look up "chair yoga" exercises on YouTube. It's great for people who have no/limited mobility or people who sit at a desk all day. Or you can try Tai Chi. You can still exercise and get your fluids moving without having to walk 5 miles or do handstands. If it's too much to do all at once, break it up into mini exercise breaks every hour or two. I believe that exercise is the best thing to help your body heal itself.

For eating, I started eating off a salad plate instead of a normal size plate a few years ago. I eat lots of greens and other veggies because I love them. I've never been one for deserts or junk food.

I will definitely look up the "chair yoga" exercises. Thanks for that!

Reading this because I have this problem too.  Have a bad habit of napping after I eat which ends in hours instead of minutes.  Started taking Vitamin B12 which energizes me more.

I also have sleep apnea, depression, meds that make me sleepy.  However, I was working out about 4 times a week which seemed to give me even more energy.
