Honestly, I didn't think this was a problem until the last two days when the site was down. That's when I went on Twitter and Facebook to look for answers... except neither of the pages have been updated for years.

I hope FC can eventually start updating their social media again. At the very least, leave a note when the site is down so users know what's going on and when it'll be back up.

Have to agree with you would have been nice to know that site was going to be down all day and they could have communicated that on Facebook or Twitter.  Many of the other sites that I work do this as courtesy.
