A Survey Asking for a Donation
« on: June 03, 2019, 12:29:59 pm »
Has anyone else come across the political survey about a current issue that asks for a donation?  Actually, I'm not really 100% sure it was asking. It may have been merely setting up a scenario where you "pretended" you are giving the donation.  I was curious and went forward a couple of pages just to see if I could figure it out.  The more I read, the more I got cold feet and opted out.  I don't think I've ever seen a survey quite like that.

I went through the whole thing and finally decided it was some kind of a joke. They explained that if you authorized the donation it did not come from your pocket, but it never credited anything to my account.

I have never been asked for money but I have been asked to pretend to purchase or do other things.  I would have went ahead with it.  You can select 0 if it asked how much you would donate.

I have had a couple of political surveys recently, but none of them have explicitly asked for any type of donation. There are other surveys, like others have said, that ask you to make a pretend purchase. If you were having reservations, it was the right decision to opt out.

Haven't ran across one about donations but like others, I have been asked to "pretend" and all turned out okay.

I tend to avoid political surveys unless they are really short (partially because I worry about what the information will be used for and whether it will be misconstrued in some way). So I haven't run into this issue. But if I did, I would probably exit the survey like you did.

I did that one as well but never got credit... it didn't ask for credit or debit card, etc so no way for them to get anything

I had that one today and like other posters, did not get credit for it. Maybe it'll be one of those that will credit after a certain amount of time, like days or weeks later.

Thanks to all of you for your feedback.  You just never know what kind of survey you are going to run into. We surely have had a lot more political surveys the closer we get to 2020.  They are seldom short.  Most ramble on so long that I can't believe they still have questions to ask!  I just never saw one that  asked for money before, whether pretend or real!

The last couple of times I have done that survey I have thought about that.  Where it asks who you voted for in the past 3 elections and who you intend to vote for in the next election.  Nothing says you have to tell the truth lol  Just select other.

The funny thing is the people behind these surveys take the answers to heart and expect this to be the outcome and when it isn't scream well people surveyed said this.  You do not know the people surveyed told you the truth.  People are getting more and more to where they are not as vocal about who they vote for. You are also right in you do not know how the info will be used.  You also do not know how the other info in surveys will be used.

I haven't seen this survey and if I had seen it I would not be at all interested in the survey.  I don't make donations to political candidates.
