wow..unfortunately is happens a lot...not sure what qualifies in them..but my son in laws mother has told me to go to a church and get food..told her we were fine...and she talks about everything they give..which is a lot...i would be grateful if it was me...

There is a church here locally that gives food away.  The deal is you can go once a month.  But they do the thing every week.  I think you have to show ID because people are greedy.  I have heard you get ground beef and all kinds of good stuff.  I don't think you have to prove income or anything.  Maybe write it down but they don't check.  I know people who go and they have a lot more money than I do.

The one guy that was at the other thing was the one saying how he goes to that too.  Goes to all of them.  And was complaining cause he could only go once a month and said well I can eat all that in one week.

I had to restrain myself to not say well it is not their fault you are a pig.  He clearly had not missed any meals.

I have never been in a food kitchen.  I am talking about something more like a pantry.  Not somewhere you walk in a eat a free hot meal.  Not sure how it is in other towns but a lot of people who went to the one we had here were some of the richest people in the county.

Last I heard ours had closed down.  Lot of rumors about what is going on.  I know they are being sued.  And a judge ruled with the party suing them.  They are challenging the ruling.  So I don't even know if they are still open at all.

I have never been a recipient, but I have volunteered at a food bank. It was a long time ago, but it was items like a 3 pound bag of potatoes (that's what I clearly remember) and other non-perishables. I don't remember people being greedy or upset with what they received, however.

Well at this one you can't really be greedy.  You get ONE bag/box and that is it.  We do have people try to get more.  It is 4 times a year and changes each quarter.  I know this last time there was like 3-4 jars of peanut butter.  And I remember seeing rice and dry beans.  And canned stuff.

I def remember people complaining.  About everything. haha

My neighbor goes to food give a ways. She said some people get there 6 hours before it is open. And then they complain about not getting enough.

I don't feel desperate enough to go pick up boxes of free food, but the other day we did go to Taco Bell to take advantage of the, "Steal a game, steal a taco" promotion for the NBA Playoffs where they gave away free Tacos when a team won an away game. What surprised me was they would give you up to 8 tacos for free and if you were over 55 you could get a free drink with it. I like Taco Bell anyway, so it was a sweet bonus.

How come they gave you up to 8 free tacos for being over 55.  I have done that before but I got 1. lol.

Heck 8 tacos could feed 4 people if they aren't pigs. :D

The free drink was for being over 55 and it was refillable as much as you like. The up to 8 free tacos was because a team in the NBA Playoffs won a game away from home, hence the, "Steal a game, steal a taco" slogan.

But usually it is ONE taco not 8.  That was the question.  8 free tacos to everyone who comes in and asks seems like a lot and very costly.  I go in with a family of 6 and we each get 8 tacos that is 48 tacos.  People do that all day long that would prove to be really costly.

I remember a few years ago they done something like that and I think the Doritos taco was what they gave away.  But you could only get one.  Some people even tried to leave and come right back in to get a second one and they would not give them but the 1.

I did not know you could get a free drink if you are over 55.  Wonder if that is just your location or all of them.  They don't advertise it.

I remember the Doritto Taco giveaway and we just went to several stores. The free senior drink is location specific and some stores near us have it and others don't. We just know which ones, since we are Taco Bell Fans.

My experience was completely different.  It was sponsored by our church.  Everyone checked in, went through a prayer conference and on to get their food.  I saw some very sad people but not the complaints you experienced.

There is a church that does like a bread basket thing.  There are a couple of people there who complain because they have to stand there or if they limit certain items which some times they do (so there is enough for everyone to get some).  They have snack stuff and they usually only allow 2 per household.  Because people will come in with 6 kids and try to get 2 for them and 2 for each kid.  Amazes me.  But most people are at least nice even if they do not really appreciate it.  I guess the ones who complain just stick out in your mind more.
