Happy Fathers Day to all the dads. Sadly my father was killed in an accident when I was 10 and I still miss him.
My second cousin was 10 when her dad died. Happened at work which was close enough to the school to see. My cousin knew it was her dad in the ambulance. One of the teachers told her well I guess he is dead because they had the curtain closed on the ambulance.
Wait, the teacher said to a 10 year old "I think he is dead" ? what an awful thing to say to a child...the teacher could have been more compassionate ....or did I read this wrong?
No the teacher said "
well he is probably dead" because the curtain on the back window of the ambulance was closed. This was my great uncle.
No you read it right. She still remembers. I am not sure but I want to think they already knew who was in the ambulance. Picture Little House on the prairie. If somebody at the mill got hurt all the kids would know and know who it was. They took him in an ambulance. I do not remember if he was alive when they left with him to go to the hospital, I do know they were working with him in the back of the ambulance because some of the kids saw that, but he did die either before they got to the hospital or very shortly after.
I mean even if you know you would let family tell the child their father has died. Say I don't know. You also do not need to just lie and tell them he is okay but certainly what the teacher done was wrong. And IF you are the one that tells the kid have a little compassion when you tell them.
And you thought stuff like that just happened in today's world.
