Best of luck to you! I believe you mean colonoscopy? My family has no history of cancer other than a grandmother who died of lung cancer at age eighty four. Her death from cancer was inevitable as she used to smoke eight to ten packs of cigarettes per day. Given my family history I have opted out of getting a colonoscopy-much to my Doctor's chagrin. My doctor is also less than pleased that I will not take medicine for my slightly heightened Cholesterol levels. I told my Doctor, at the last visit, that my cholesterol levels have been exactly the same for thirty five years. He responded with telling me that older bodies are not equipped, as well, to handle higher levels. I am not concerned. Nobody in my family has died at an age earlier than eighty four. I figure, age fifty six, I have at least twenty eight years to go.

I wish you the best of luck and all goes well. It is good that you are having this done. Last time I had it done the doctor removed polyps in me. I am so thankful that they found these and removed them as they can lead to cancer.

Yes - the worst part is the stuff you take the day before.  The procedure - you won't even know anything until it is done.

HOW could you smoke 10 packs a cigarettes a DAY?  That is 250 cigarettes!

Doctors like to push pills on people.  I had one who tried to push something on me a few years ago.  It was actually injections and he was like we will start you on xxx injections today.  I said NO YOU WON'T.  He just looked at me.  We went back and forth and I was like It's MY body and I am not doing this.  He also sent me home with 2 scripts.  I am not taking either of them.  Did not need them.  He is a druggie.  Every person he sees they say he puts them on 2-3 prescriptions.  I refuse to go back to him.

I guess the worse part (never had it) would be the needle in the arm to put you to sleep????  A friend had it a couple years ago.

Well, how did it go? This is the lot of everyone over 40 nowadays.:P

Now you can advise others about your adventure and won't have to do it again for another eight years.
Yay!

I have  had 5 of them and I don't  think I will again. Although the doctor  found 3 plyops  when I had the  second one. Of course it had been  way over 10  years and go rid of them .  recommend  I have one every  5 years and I have had so  far.  And this las one was  only a tiny one. The last doctor  wanted me to come in every year. Said nope and that I would never  comeback to him again anyway.   the  crude he  gave me was  awful. His own recipe and  was the hardest one I ever had. Most of them  use go lightly which is not so  bad.

You don't wish for luck, you ask God to bring you thru it.

I haven't had one for a long time, but it was really no big deal. The last time they let me watch the whole thing on a TV screen as the probe journeyed down a long pink tunnel.

That would be cool to watch. I like watching medical procedures. I watched my brother's Lasik procedure on TV from the waiting area.

I had one done last fall.  Watching the procedure was not an option.  I was "out".  If given the opportunity, I would want to watch.  Fascinating.

When I had mine they had me drink Gatorade with MiraLax in it. (not purple or red).  I wanted to watch the whole thing but my sisters talked me out of it.    8)

I had to have one done for 3 years in a row. They took my right colon because of a polyp. One lousy benign polyp that was found on my last CT Scan after my radiation treatments were done. I hated that doc and if I wasn't in a state of shock, I would've requested a second opinion. The surgeon was happy to cut me up. Won't ever have that surgeon again. Lots of patients walked out on him during their appointments for one reason or another. He was truly a nasty man. It will be 5 years now and I go back to the Gastroenterologist in Dec. Yuk!
