One of Your Worst Nightmares!
« on: July 05, 2019, 05:32:08 am »
I have to admit that i have a number of nightmarish situations.  I'll share one of mine.  It would be my house catching on fire and having major damage and losing some sentimental things that can never be replaced no matter how good the insurance.  A friend"s adult daughter had one about 6 months ago and not only was the event, itself, a nightmare, but dealing with the aftermath, such as the insurance company, been one.  Not particularly because the insurance didn't want to pay, but due to all the work you need to put in to be fairly reimbursed.  All this was on top of working a job and figuring out where and how to live while rebuilding or relocating!

I do not entertain thoughts like that.

Been there. Done that.

Losing your home to a fire is one of the worst things that can happen because of all the things you mentioned.

And it's unbelievable when they try and prove that you did it yourself. That's the ultimate humiliation. There was never any cause found for my home burning because they tried for so long to prove I had done it. It took me a while to figure out that was what they were doing, but I think I was still so much in shock from the incident to believe that the aftermath could be worse.  :o

That is a terrible nightmare.  I have a major fear of fire, my father was killed in a gas explosion which resulted in a major fire.  13 people were killed that day, and my mother had to identify him by only his belt buckle that’s had bad he was burnt.

What a terrible nightmare!  I never want to have to go thru something like this and try to be cautious but accidents do happen.  I keep a fire extinguisher on each floor of my home just in case and have purchased 3 escape ladders for the bedrooms that are upstairs.

I've actually thought about throwing a match at mine oftentimes.  I don't think there's really anything here that I couldn't live without, except my critters.  Nobody else cares about pictures or anything.  I take pictures but never look at them again.  It would be hard to find a place to live.  That part would be a nightmare.  Maybe if it was summer we could camp out in the yard while rebuilding.  My house actually needs to be burnt down and rebuilt.

The insurance company tried to say you set your own home on fire? Wow.  I would probably get a lawyer and sue for legal expenses as well as what they owed me ins wise.  Depending on the situation.  I mean if you are living in the home at the time of the fire I doubt anybody is going to set it on fire.  Now we have had a couple that were no power and no one lived there for a couple years and it was in foreclosure and every other thing so yeah those I would come closer to thinking they set the fire themselves.

Also there have been a lot of cases where a home was empty and caught on fire but I would suspect a homeless person was shacking up in the house.  That was happened a lot.

I am sorry to see a few people here had to go thru that trying experience.

I am not sure any of you remember the PTC for June 30th.There was a disco fire in NY that night that took 24 lives.I was there and had left an hr before fire dept got there.A petty thief was robbing a vending machine in a bowling alley next door to the club and then set a fire to cover his robbery. The air conditioning unit from the disco pulled in all the poisonous smoke immediately killing the stampede of patrons that were 24 and injuring others. The arsonists name was Peter Leonard and he got 12 yrs for manslaughter. The name of the disco was Gullivers and this was 1974.Worst fire in US that yr.I also knew 1 of the patrons very well that didnt get out that night and kissed her hello as i saw her earlier. She was a bit tomboyish and i was surprised to hear she didnt make it out.It must have been immediate hell from the smoke that came in at a fast and alarming rate and im sure a stampede started.

You think of hearing of incidents like that elsewhere but not in your area.A night i will never forget,as i heard the place was on fire and i went down to see for myself.

There were disputes if the fire was in Ct or NY cos the disco was right on the border. It was finally deemed NY.

There is much fraud so i understand why insurance companies go thru this but i also think they look NOT to pay in cases.

Your life is the most important thing. You cant replace that.

I have often thought about what if my house caught fire.  We have really good insurance.  It could replace some the material possessions but not the memories and precious keepsakes that I have of raising my daughter in that home.
Have a wonderful day!

My worst nightmare is being stuck in a crowd and not being able to get out of it quickly or safely.  I hate crowds and noise.

I do not recommend Coachella, then! I went in 2018 and there were people everywhere and loud music, of course. My friend ended up having a panic attack.
