Healthy enough to donate Plasma
« on: July 10, 2019, 12:31:19 am »
How healthy are you?

Most of us don't look like super models and we might not feel great every day of every week; but, being able to manage our health is important.

I decided to go sell some of my plasma today and I was grateful that I'm healthy enough to have that opportunity.  There is a physical that a person must pass each year and I also must pass a screening each time I go.

I take 4 different medications but it could be worse.  Each time I donate I must be somewhat hydrated and have enough iron and protein in my blood.

Seems like there's always room for improvement but I am motivated to take better care of myself when I donate.

How about you?  Are you healthy?  Do you donate plasma?
Have a great day!

No I can’t donate plasma or blood.  I take a chemo pill every day - that stops me

I donate plasma. It is quite the interesting experience. People watching is fun at plasma centers. I have developed a deeper appreciation for everything that is good in my life and minimize the effect of bad things happening in my life. Some people come in high and/or drunk regardless of the hour in the day. Some appear to be homeless even though proof of residence is required. Mental health seems to be at lower levels as I see lots of people talking to themselves, walking in circles, an/or displaying inappropriate emotions-generally anger. Lines can be long-even at six in the morning. The employees at these donation centers are overworked, underpaid and the negative attitude in many is quite apparent. Donating can be somewhat tiring-I usually like to take a thirty minute nap afterwards.

After reading this post i only support more how God feels about it.

Acts 15:28 -29 For the holy spirit+ and we ourselves have favored adding no further burden to you except these necessary things: 29 to keep abstaining from things sacrificed to idols,+ from blood,+ from what is strangled,+ and from sexual immorality.+ If you carefully keep yourselves from these things, you will prosper. Good health to you!”

Not healthy enough to donate plasma. My youngest son tried recently and passed out cold so he said that was it for him. My husband used to pass out just having a blood test in a lab. My dad had a rare blood type so back in the day he would always be called sometimes in the middle of the night to donate blood but that was many many years ago.

I'm healthy but I've never "donated" plasma... but I always intended to after seeing the results when my mother was being treated for non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.  I heard you have to commit for multiple times or they can't use the plasma .. I really need to pay it forward & donate, there is a plasma collection center near me... it's just a little bit intimidating, like I don't want to be surrounded by junkies for hours if that is how it is inside one.  Hopefully that isn't the case.

I assume before they started testing it?  I think it is actually months before it can be used now.

Junkies?  Really?  I doubt very seriously the place you donate is full of junkies.  And the blood is tested so if you are doped up they can't use it any way.

Junkies, drunks, mentally ill, etc....   I seriously doubt it would be filled with junkies as the area is in a high rent district, but there are TONS of homeless people here & I often see people shooting up openingly & they definitely aren't exactly mentally well.... can't imagine having to sit in that kind of environment for hours donating plasma.

Here's a person who donated, who stated this very thing above:

The homeless are not going to be in the facility where you donate.  I also would not think it would take hours.  Just because someone is homeless also doesn't mean they are a junkie laying on the sidewalk with a needle hanging out of their arm.

I do not believe the "mental health" thing.  That is a cop out.  Just something people say nowadays to excuse behavior.  I have seen people "talking to themselves" a lot.  I don't think they are talking to themselves as much as just verbally thinking out loud.

I just would not think people who are druggies and homeless and the other stuff mentioned would be hanging around places like this.  Maybe so if it pays well.  Get enough cash for a fix.
