Volkswagen Beetle
« on: July 12, 2019, 08:50:53 am »
Just heard that buying a new "Bug" will no longer be an option as that specific vehicle is being discontinued.

The tiny car designed by Ferdinand Porsche (yes, that Porsche) was first produced in 1938. Volkswagen has discontinued it twice before, so you never know...

I've always wanted to own a VW Beetle.  Yeah, I could see myself painting flowers on it so it could be my "hippie" car.

Did you own a Bug?

Have a great day!

I don't think it would really be a practical car for me but I would kind of get a kick out of driving a bug, one of the old kind, and of course in a funky color :p

It's funny I never drove or even sat in one.  What's funny is we usually buy VW's.  We have a Passat and Tiguan, both VW's.

My Dad had two beatles.  All these years I thought that he liked the cars.  found out he hated them.  Now us kids loved riding in the very back in the covey whole.  I can remember one of the cars starting on fire.  That happened early in the am as my parents were leaving for work on a cold winters day.

My first car was a used VW Beetle.... it had such a small minimalist motor, looked like a lawn mower's.  It was an automatic clutch, which means you still had to shift, but didn't have to push in a clutch when you shifted.

End of an era.  But yeah, they have made a comeback before, so one never knows is it really the end.

I owned three of them. First one a 67 VW which I sold to get a newer version- two 1974 VWs.
All were very reliable. I drove them to work and for get away weekends.

If they go away, they will come better with technological improvements.

A few years ago there was a red one for sale.  It had black round spots on the sides and eyelashes on the headlights.  I thought this cute, adorable 'Lady Bug' was so neat and I wanted to buy it.

Anyway, I've never owned a Beetle Bug.  I have heard that they will not longer be manufacturing them.  Of course they said that about other makes and models that have come back, so we'll see what happens.

I learned to drive a standard on a bug in the 60's. Neat little car.

I never owned one but know a lot of people who did.  A VW was my dad's first car.
Have a wonderful day!
