phone service.
« on: July 21, 2019, 11:11:33 am »
or the lack of.  I never gave to much thought into being able to contact my family, until we all suffer from lack of phone service.  As of now we can run on wifi if we are in a spot that has it.  Makes for a lot of walking.  LOL...
How are you with out technology?  Could you take or leave it.

If the power grid were to ever fail, and it has in other countries, or something happened and phone services were shut off for any length of time, people would be falling off dead in the streets.  People are so reliant on their phones they would not even know how to act.

I use my phone a lot but I would not die if I were to lose service.

I can deal without it  better than with it.

I just spent 17 days on a trip through Canada to Alaska for some fishing and my phone was off the grid 95% of the time, with no lasting effect. I did have some time at my son's house in Anchorage without Internet, but I could go down to Barnes and Noble to use their Wii-Fi to run Google Hangout with my Google Voice number to call home for free.

As useful as the phone is for a ton of things, sometimes when it doesn't work the freedom from having to be able to be contacted at any second is almost sort of a relief.

I like knowing I can get help if I need it.  There is only a couple of people I care if they could get in touch with me at any minutes.  I wouldn't call it a relief to be out of cell range.  I am capable of ignoring the phone if it rings or a text comes in and I do not want to respond or answer the call.

I agree with countrygirl12, being out at night sometimes it helps having the phone to contact someone.

I am old enough that technology has passed me!  But I do agree that we would be isolated without it.  It is my only connection with my kids and their families.

Just curious how old that would be?

I turn 81 in less than two weeks and take full advantage of it every day.

I like having my phone except when I constantly get robo calls.  I would not miss them at all.  I do play games on my phone and text more than I talk on it.

I have Verizon and I rarely have phone issues. I am lucky that when I do, the issue gets resolved quickly.
