The Art of Racing in the Rain
« on: August 15, 2019, 08:02:49 pm »
I recently saw a movie preview and I instantly thought -  I'd be willing to sit in a movie theatre for that one.

I don't sit in movie theatres very often.  Maybe once a year.  Also, I won't see a movie twice unless I really, really liked it.

That being said....

I'm wondering if any of you have seen the movie that came out on August 9th, 2019 called "The Art of Racing in the Rain".

I'm not asking for details about the movie but I would like your honest opinion IF you have seen it.

If you've seen it.....

Would you recommend it to others?
Have a great day!

The story line looks good and I read that it had a happy ending which makes me want to see it even if the critics have panned it. I saw "Old Yeller" and vowed to never see a sad, dog-dies movie again (like "Marley and Me"). I will wait till it hits Netflix, however. I saw "Once upon a time in Hollywood" and "Mid Sommar" this weekend and gave both movies a 'meh' rating-pretty mediocre. There was a lot of hype for Tarantino's movie and it was pretty good but my expectations were higher (I had the same feeling about "The Hateful Eight"). It is said that he will do another last movie that is expected to be a horror movie-we will see. Mid Sommar had some awesome cinematography but the ending was less than special. I am pretty excited to go see Zombieland 2 (set for release October 18th) and the new Joker movie set to release the first week in October.

I saw it with my 9 yr old granddaughter and a couple of friends.  My one friend kept saying, I didn't expect it to be so sad.  We all like it but it does have a lot of sadness.  Same guy that made Marley & Me if you saw that.

I dont think Id go the the theater to see it, Id rather watch it at home, I think it will definitely have sad parts in it, and would rather people not seeing me with tears rolling down my face lol. Plus I can lounge around in comfortable clothes while I watch it

I'm not familiar with it.  Like you - I don't go to the theater much.  It has been over a year since I have gone there.   :confused1:

The Art of Racing in the Rain is playing this weekend in our local theater.  I have not heard of it, so I did a google.  This is what Rotten Tomatoes gave as a quick description of the movie.

Based on the best-selling novel by Garth Stein, THE ART OF RACING IN THE RAIN is a heartfelt tale narrated by a witty and philosophical dog named Enzo (voiced by Kevin Costner). Through his bond with his owner, Denny Swift (Milo Ventimiglia), an aspiring Formula One race car driver, Enzo has gained tremendous insight into the human condition and understands that the techniques needed on the racetrack can also be used to successfully navigate the journey of life. The film follows Denny and the loves of his life - his wife, Eve (Amanda Seyfried), their young daughter Zoe (Ryan Kiera Armstrong), and ultimately, his true best friend, Enzo.

For me, I will pass on seeing it in the theater.
