I agree I used to spend $150 a week when my girls were home, no is just hubby and me, we buy less and spend the same.  I have opted to go to different stores to buy, I go to Walmart for the big items, I go to Price Rite for cereals and other stuff, I love Lidl and Aldi for fruits, vegetables and some meats, and I hit Family dollar and big lots for some of the products like soap, detergents and lotions, deodorants, etc.  I go to Costco for trash bags (is the least expensive spend $20 and don't need to go back for 6 to 8 months), I also buy laundry detergent and softener there every 6 weeks (and big lots for in between).

I know they want us to be vegetarians, but even vegetables and fruits are expensive, and the Organic stuff cost even more.

"THEY" do not want us to be vegetarians.  Crazy physcos like PETA want that. But "they" do not.  If everyone stopped eating meat there would be a lot of beef farmers, chicken farms, and others out of business. It is like I said before everything costs more. And it is eventually passed down to the consumer.

Meat has always been expensive.

    Food is expensive...very expensive!
I usually buy only what I cannot get for free at
    the local Food Banks.

Grocery prices are nuts.  I'm shelling out about $600/mo for a family of 4 adults.

Yea, food costs are rising. Even basic ingredients like milk and eggs are pricey.
Opinion: 1) a view, judgment, or appraisal formed in the mind about a particular matter 2) belief stronger than impression and less strong than positive knowledge
This is the internet, learn to let people have opinions. And don't be so sensitive.  8)

Frozen food does seem more costly now compare to before but they are darn good to eat when you really don't want to cook at home nor want to go to the hassle of all the stuff you must do.

I've been thinking the same thing.  We're spending a lot more and not even really getting anything to eat.  I don't buy frozen meals, much, pot pies when on sale.  I keep telling my husband we're going to have to start living on ramen or start dumpster diving.  There are videos on dumpster diving and they get some pretty good stuff doing that.  Lots of produce, which is expensive.  I never see them get toilet paper, though, and that's expensive.  Makes me want to go out and get leaves or something to use.

Food bounces during the year on price. Right now a lot of food that normally below be in shorter supply and higher demand so prices will go up a lot of things

It's not spending too much on groceries, it's the products going up in price each month! The cat food I regularly  buy, gone up in price. The Ramon soup gone up in price, The microwaveable I usually get cheap has gone up in price. Everything's going up in price!!!!!

I know that feeling! I scan my cart now before checking out to see if anything is unecessary.

Cutting out or reducing meat saves a lot.

quote author=sfreeman8 link=topic=89887.msg1292027#msg1292027 date=1567979604]
We stopped buying beef, except ground beef and only on sale (last week $2.48/lb but still cost over $12, and pork chops on sale still cost over $6 for 6 of them) and we stopped buying a lot of fish because of the price. Even butter is now $4/lb. In last week's flyers, all meat (including deli), dairy, and fish went up by $1/lb. two weeks ago. Forget seafood. Salmon is $9/lb. now. Bacon is $5/lb. Even potatoes are now $3.50 for 5 lb. unless you hit them on sale, then they're $2.98. I notice coupons are only good for 3-4 weeks anymore, some only good for 2 weeks but the sales go on when the coupons run out.

I think the're trying to force us to become vegetarians! The only good deal are the TV dinners but they're so loaded with sodium, cholesterol, calories, and more, that I don't buy them very often.

If you use a smartphone you should get the apps that give you cash back or points towards amazon credits. I been using them for years. they add up throughout the year and come in handy for the holiday season :)
