stop lights and stop signs
« on: September 20, 2019, 07:52:19 am »
I become more and more astounded by the amount of people that disregard these devices. So far as speed limits are concerned, it seems no one pays attention to them at all.  :confused1:

And don't even get me started on tailgating. Do people realize how many will be involved in an accident in the event of someone having to suddenly stop?  :o

Does this concern anyone else but me? Am I just being an old fuddy duddy? :angry7:

Nope, not a fuddy duddy at all.

I used to enjoy driving but for the most part I can't stand it anymore.  For all the reasons that you mentioned and others as well, I am so over it with people who have absolutely no respect for life, namely mine.

There are so many of my friends just from my local area who have been in car accidents over the past few years.

Yes, the stupidness that is so common on the roads these days does in fact concern me.   :o

You definitely have to drive defensively. And sometimes you just might be in wrong place at wrong time.

I am proud to say i have been driving almost 50 yrs and NEVER got a speeding ticket.

Street cleaning tickets?Thats another story LOL!

They are getting crazy drivers attention around here with photo systems at busy intersections handing out $200 fines by mail.

People are always in a rush so they speed all over the place and don't pay attention to road signs.

Around here (in a small town) people obey the traffic lights.  But a lot of people don't do a full stop at the stop sign.  Tapping on the break for a split second isn't the same as stopping.

YES! This drives me crazy! When I drove 30+ minutes to work, I would count all the people I saw running red lights. It was ridiculous. I see people stop and go at red lights, like they are stop signs. I see people turning right from the far left lane, and vice versa. I used to think there were just a lot of bad drivers out there. But now I think it's that people just don't care. They want to do what they want to do, regardless of rules and laws, and they think they are more important than everyone else.

I still see people driving with phones in their hands, even though it's illegal now.  >:(

Just yesterday i driving on a main street and the light was on red, I was coming up to the light and a car was one lane over and at the light, but it went right thru the light, she didn't have right of way, she didn't see any cars coming, the left lane opposite of me had the right of way, so went on thru a red light, I say she, because when the light turned green i passed by the car and saw that it was an elderly lady, i'm like, why in the world did she do that. She could have caused an accident.

Just for some added fun to this thread, I'm wondering why it is such a big imposition for people to actually put their blinkers on before turning. I think the automobile manufacturers might be better served by leaving them off altogether and saving themselves that cost. They are so seldom used after all.

I mean how hard can it be to slightly move your hand to the blinker and turn it on to let people know what you're planning on doing before you do it? :dontknow:

lol  They tried that where I live.  Or a couple counties over.  No one paid them.  They are not enforceable.  And if you do not pay them there is nothing they can do.

What really IRKS me is that no one yields when getting onto the freeway anymore! They just keep on going, expecting those in the right lane to stop for them. I have had to stop many times so we weren't hit. I had nowhere to go, traffic on my left and those idiots coming in on the right. So frustrating!  My kids are scared to death to drive. I have 6 kids, and 2 waited until they were almost 20 and had to get their license, one is almost 18 and doesn't want to get it at all (anxiety) and my youngest is 14. She swears she is never going to drive. It is sad...I know these people all took the same dang test I did. How did they pass???

Here's a nifty update:  5 short days after I made this comment on this thread, my husband and I were on our way to our next client when we were hit in the back by a motorcycle!

We were coming up to an intersection where the light just turned green.  So we were going with the flow of traffic, about 30 mph when the motorcycle hit our back bumper.

He admitted to being at fault for not paying attention.  Since it was our company van with a business wrap, it will cost a boat load of bucks to replace and re wrap our van.

Thankfully nobody got hurt.

I totally agree with you. So many people don't pay attention to sped limit especially school zone speed limits. It seems like I get tailgated almost every day when I'm trying to drive the stated limit of 25 miles per hour.
