A few weeks ago I went to the dentist and they said one tooth needed a root canal and one tooth needed a crown.  The root canal costs $2500 and the crown costs $1250.  Neither are covered by insurance.  I had the tooth that needed the root canal pulled (insurance does cover that)  and I went in for the crown Friday.  2 hours of poking and  scraping, (90% of which I felt) and I got the temporary crown.  Saturday it fell out.  So now I have to call Monday and go back.

I don't know why I thought this would be an easy procedure.LOL

Ugh!  I feel your pain.  I just had 3 crowns put on.  I had to finance it.  One tooth pulled and another filled.  HOURS in the chair.  My jaw hurt so bad by the time they were done.

Dental work is expensive even with dental insurance.  It makes me mad and sad that you had to have a tooth pulled because of the cost.

I've had mixed results with crowns. A couple have stayed put in my mouth  for a long time, while a couple others have come off after a few years. I've had one or two molars pulled from the back of my mouth (very old fillings and resultant cracking), but anything that might show is definitely crown-worthy, LOL!  :peace:

OMG... I'm currently going through this.... I need a root canal & am going through the process currently. My insurance used to cover so much & now I get nickle & dimed to pay so much out of pocket. The root canal is thankfully covered, but I have to pay $170 for my currently crown removal & X-ray & then $800 for the replacement crown.   Crowns used to be partially covered, but not anymore.   I need to have a root canal on another tooth right next to the one I'm having done now.   Two crowns... $1600  ridiculous.    Now I know why many people here go over the border to Mexico to have their dental care taken care of -- Mexico has dental practices right next to the border that cater to Americans & their prices are a fraction of the price.

The pain of going through that is just sad, each time I go to the dentist it always makes me think twice on what I really have to do to take care of my teeth.

Ugh, I sympathize with you, OP. I am sorry that you have to go through all of this. I have had a root canal procedure; it is NOT fun, believe me.

I have had that happen. And yes dental work is so expensive, even with insurance. I am still paying on dental work from 7 years ago.

I had to get a root canal and crown and with insurance I paid almost $1000.  I felt no pain for the root canal and my crown never fell out.  Sounds like whoever did it didn't know what they were doing.
