Leave it to Beaver

While I really like this show I have often wondered why they make the Beaver so stupid?

Another irritating thing is Ward (the dad) can't tell a story without laughing so much he can't talk.  That irritates me in person and on TV.  I would probably tell him when he could tell the story to come back and talk to me.

I used to love that show as a kid. But I never even noticed that the Beaver character was stupid or that the Dad, Ward, laughed too much. I pretty much liked the whole family just the way it was.

People frequently badmouth old situation comedies and westerns as inane and stupid. Beaver was just a little boy with lots of life lessons to be learned. The interactions with his brother and friends were funny and sweet. The mom and dad really cared about their children and that was obvious. His older brother, Wally, and his offbeat friends were intriguing and showed what a good-natured boy he was.

I miss that show and shows like Father Knows Best, The Rifleman, MacGyver, Family Ties and the Andy Griffith Show. There are others I could mention as well.

The relationships were idealized but they gave you something to attain to, and gave you good ideas for ways of how to deal with problems. It seems as though today's shows focus on base humor and sarcasm way too much. We really don't need more ideas for ways of being unkind to one another, do you think? Everyday life has plenty of opportunities for an interesting storyline for a television show without resorting to that.

Yeah I didn't really noticed that the Beav, was acting like that. Ward did always smile a lot, under some instances when the Beav did something he shouldn't have, like running away from home at a very young age.

Clearly a show when compared to todays times if such a time existed.

Just backs up what bible says that Satan knows his time is short and why the world is so much more chaotic today.

I enjoy those old shows and always try to find the moral of them.  Most of the shows today is about sex or very bad staged reality shows.

I never noticed it as a kid.  I did not say he laughed too much.  But if he starts to tell the boys a story it is like he gets so tickled he can't tell the story.  I wanna say "old man get it together and when you do tell your story".

No he was made out to be stupid.  Like when he said he wanted a hamburgler because he did not know it was a hamburger.  They had him saying stuff like that all the time.  I was not bad mouthing the show.  Just pointing out some things I notice now that I did not before. I don't watch much of the trash that is on tv these days.  And that is what it is.  Pure trash.

They actually had a reboot show called still the beaver when he was an adult. I never watched it but passed it when I was channel surfing. I don't think it lasted long though.

I remember that show.  I loved it, Father Knows Best, Hazel, Mayberry RFD, we're some of the old shows I loved and occasionally watch them now.

I love the older television programs and how harmless they are.  They make me laugh; even when, they're not trying to be funny.

The old shows are about the only ones I usually watch any more.  Don't care for very many of the new shows that are out.

I agree.  I really miss those old shows.  I didn't watch Leave it to Beaver much but it was a nice family show.  I loved *bleep* Van Dyke and Andy Griffith.

I don't know. I never really analyzed the show to that depth. They just seemed to be a wholesome (and perhaps unrealistically idealized depiction) family from the 1960s.
